Test J: Too Hot In Vehicle
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Firebird and 2002 Chevrolet Camaro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
For circuit reference, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION and/or WIRING DIAGRAMS
.
NOTE:
Definition: Temperature can not be adjusted, or cooling insufficient during A/C operation.
- If diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check was not performed, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Turn ignition on. Place mode switch in any position except off. Place blower switch in each speed position. If blower motor operates at all, go to next step. If blower motor does not operate, go to TEST D: BLOWER MOTOR INOPERATIVE .
- If blower motor operates correctly in each speed position, go to next step. If blower motor does not operate correctly in each speed position, go to TEST E: BLOWER MOTOR MALFUNCTION .
- If vehicle is too hot inside when the A/C is on, go to next step. If vehicle is not too hot inside when A/C cooling is on, go to step 7.
- Ensure ambient air temperature is above 38°F (3°C). Start engine. Place blower switch in the maximum speed position. Place mode switch in the MAX position. Place temperature switch in the coldest position. If A/C compressor operates, go to next step. If A/C compressor does not operate, go to TEST F: COMPRESSOR CLUTCH DOES NOT ENGAGE .
- Perform A/C system performance test. See A/C SYSTEM PERFORMANCE TEST under PERFORMANCE TESTS. If a system performance problem was found, repair as necessary and go to step 8. If a system performance problem was not found, go to next step.
- Check air temperature cable and door for broken or binding linkage, and broken or binding cable or door. If a cable or door condition was found, repair as necessary and go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If condition was corrected, system is okay. If condition was not corrected, go to step 2.
NOTE:
For A/C compressor operation, ambient air temperature must be above 38°F (3°C).
