Test D: Blower Motor Inoperative

NOTE: For circuit reference, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  and/or WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
NOTE: Definition: The blower motor is inoperative in all speed positions.
  1. If diagnostic system test has been performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition on. Place mode selector switch to VENT position. Place blower motor switch in each speed position. If blower motor operates in any speed position, problem is intermittent. Check for poor connections, loose components or damaged wiring, and repair as necessary. If repair is complete, go to step  16. If blower motor does not operate in any speed position, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect blower motor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Place blower motor switch in lowest speed position. Using a test light connected to ground, backprobe blower motor harness connector terminal No. "B" (Purple wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  5.
  4. Check blower motor ground (Black wire) between blower motor harness connector terminal No. "A" and ground for an open or high resistance. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If an open or high resistance was found, repair necessary and go to step  16. If wire is okay, go to step  10.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect blower motor resistor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Place blower motor switch to lowest speed position. Using a test light connected to ground, backprobe blower motor resistor harness connector terminal No. "B" (Yellow wire). See Figure. If test light illuminates, go to step  8. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  6. Check Light Green wire between HVAC control harness connectors C1 and C2 for an open or high resistance. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If an open or high resistance was found, repair as necessary and go to step  16. If wire is okay, go to next step.
  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect HVAC control assembly 3-pin C2 harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Turn ignition on. Using a test light connected to ground, backprobe HVAC control harness connector C2, terminal No. "C" (Brown wire). If test light illuminates, go to step  11. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  12.
  8. Check Purple wire between blower motor relay harness connector and blower motor harness connector for open or high resistance. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If an open or high resistance was found, repair as necessary and go to step  16. If wire is okay, go to next step.
  9. Check blower motor relay harness connector for poor connections or defects. If a poor connection was found, repair as necessary and go to step  16. If connections are okay, go to step  13.
  10. Check blower motor harness connector for poor connections or defects. If a poor connection was found, repair as necessary and go to step  16. If connections are okay, go to step  14.
  11. Check HVAC control assembly harness connectors for poor connections or defects. If a poor connection was found, repair as necessary and go to step  16. If connections are okay, go to step  15.
  12. Repair Brown wire between HVAC fuse (20-amp) in instrument panel fuse block and HVAC control assembly 3-pin C2 harness connector as necessary. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If repair is complete, go to step  16.
  13. Replace blower motor relay. See BLOWER MOTOR RELAY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step  16.
  14. Replace blower motor. See BLOWER MOTOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step  16.
  15. Replace HVAC control assembly. See HVAC CONTROL ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If replacement is complete, go to next step.
  16. Operate blower system to verify repair. If blower motor operates normally, repair is complete. If blower motor is still inoperative, return to step  3.
