Diagnostic System Check

  1. Review system operation. See OPERATION . Visually inspect easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause a problem. Inspect aftermarket devices which could affect operation of HVAC system. Verify that compressor clutch turns freely and is not seized. Check for damaged or faulty wiring and poor electrical connections which could cause intermittent conditions. If system operation review and visual inspection is complete, go to next step.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under instrument panel, near steering column. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  3. Turn ignition on. Attempt to establish communications with Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If communication is establish with the PCM, go to next step. If communication is not established with PCM, go to appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  4. Following scan tool manufacturers instructions, select PCM DISPLAY DTCs function. If any DTCs are displayed, go to next step. If no DTCs are displayed, perform procedure for appropriate symptom. See A/C SYSTEM SYMPTOM INDEX  table.
  5. If scan tool displays any DTCs beginning with "U", go to appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If no DTCs beginning with "U" are displayed, go to next step.
  6. If scan tool displays any DTCs beginning with "P" that are associated with the A/C system, go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX  table. If no DTCs beginning with "P" are displayed, perform procedure for appropriate symptom. See A/C SYSTEM SYMPTOM INDEX  table.
