WARNING:
Do not attempt to repair or alter the head impact energy-absorbing material glued to the headliner or to the garnish trims. If the material is damaged, replace the headliner and/or the garnish trim. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.
CAUTION:
Use care when working around the head curtain inflator module. Sharp tools may puncture the curtain airbag. If the head curtain inflator module is damaged in any way, it must be replaced.
CAUTION:
If a vehicle is equipped with a head curtain inflator module ensure that the inflator module and tether are undamaged. If tether or curtain airbag are damaged in any way, they must be replaced.
Preliminary Procedures
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling
.
- The headliner to stiffener panel glue bond needs to be detached prior to full removal of headliner. If the cardboard insulator headliner is damaged, replace it. Refer to Cardboard Insulator Headliner Replacement .
- Remove the windshield side garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Side Garnish Molding Replacement

- Remove the instrument panel side trim panel (left side only). Refer to Instrument Panel Side Trim Panel Replacement

- Remove the center pillar upper garnish molding. Refer to Center Pillar Upper Garnish Molding Replacement

- Remove the sunshade assemblies. Refer to Sunshade Replacement
.
- Remove the sunshade anchors. Refer to Sunshade Anchor Replacement
.
- Remove the roof console assembly. Refer to Roof Console Replacement
.
- Remove the coat hook assembly. Refer to Coat Hook Replacement (Coupe)
.
- Remove the sunroof trim ring, if equipped. This will give the headliner added flexibility during removal.
- Remove the rear window panel trim. Refer to Rear Window Panel Trim Replacement (Coupe)

- Move the driver and passenger seat fully forward and recline.

Headliner Trim Panel Assembly Procedure
- Disconnect the electrical connectors.
- Headliner harness runs through a guide, unbolt guide and unclip to remove.
- Removal and installation of the headliner must be completed through the right side door opening with the aid of an assistant to prevent kinking or damage to the headliner. Take additional care when removing a headlining trim with a sunroof cutout, trim material forward in car of the sunroof cutout is prone to creasing if not handled properly.
