Removal Procedure

CAUTION:

If a turbocharger has failed, clean any turbocharger debris or excessive oil from the charge air cooler system before installing the new turbocharger. Failure to clean debris from the charge air cooler system will cause severe turbocharger and engine damage upon startup.

  1. Remove the intake manifold cover. Refer to Intake Manifold Cover Replacement (LTG) .
  2. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement (LTG) .

  4. Remove the turbocharger heat shield (2). Refer to Turbocharger Heat Shield Replacement .
  5. Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (LTG) .
  6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  7. Remove the PCV hose. Refer to Positive Crankcase Ventilation Hose/Pipe/Tube Replacement (Non Tamper Proof) .

  9. Remove the turbocharger oil return pipe bolts (1).

  11. Remove the turbocharger oil feed pipe bolts (1).

  13. Remove the turbocharger coolant feed pipe bolts (1). Refer to Turbocharger Coolant Feed Pipe Replacement .
  14. Remove the turbocharger coolant return pipe. Refer to Turbocharger Coolant Return Pipe Replacement .

    NOTE:

    Do not disturb the joint between the PCV hose and PCV hose fitting at the turbocharger. This is a permanent connection.

  16. Remove the PCV hose fitting bolt (2). Disconnect the PCV hose fitting (1) with the PCV hose attached from the turbocharger.

  18. Remove the turbocharger nuts (1) and turbocharger (2).
  19. For turbocharger cleaning and inspection, refer to Turbocharger Cleaning and Inspection .
