Installing the rear differential (with regulated rear differential lock (GHAS))

• Fold open the assembly protection ring (1).

• Raise the rear differential (1) with the special tool 0 496 009 (33 5 200)  .
• Insert the left output shaft (3) in the rear differential (1).
• Turn the rear differential (1) to the right and insert the right output shaft (2) in the rear differential (1).

  NOTE: Perform the steps on the right and left side.
• Pull at the tabs (1) of the installation protection ring, until one of the predetermined breaking points yields in.
• Pull out and dispose of the installation protection ring.

• Lift the rear differential (1) using special tools 0 496 009 (33 5 200)  and 0 490 133 (00 2 030) and position on the rear axle support.
• Make sure that the special tool 0 496 080 (33 5 206)  is not pinched between the rear differential and the dust plate.

• Replace screws (1).

  Parts:  Screws

• Screw in the screws (1) using hand force and tighten.

  Rear differential to rear axle carrier, front
  M12 Replace screw.	Joining torque	100 Nm
  	Angle of rotation	90°

  NOTE: The following step(s) must be performed if the listed component(s) is/are installed.
• Position the ground strap (2).
• Tighten nut (1).

  M12	Tightening torque	15 Nm

• Replace the screw (1).

• Tighten down screw (1).

  M10 Replace screw.	Joining torque	56 Nm
  	Angle of rotation	90°

• Replace the screw (1).

• Insert screw (1).

• Replace nut (1).

• Tighten nut (1).

  M14 Replace screw and nut.	Joining torque	165 Nm

• Loosen and remove the special tool 0 496 080 (33 5 206) from the rear differential (1)  .
• Lower the special tools  0 490 133 (00 2 030)  and 0 496 009 (33 5 200) and set them aside  .

• Attach the cable on the holder (3).
• Connect connectors (1) and (2) and lock.

• Position the heat shield (2).
• Tighten down screws (1).
  TIGHTENING TORQUES SPECIFICATION
  
  

  Heat shield to servomotor holder
  M5	tightening torque	4.5 Nm
