Front Seat, Removing And Installing, Front Seat Removing With A Faulty Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor Or A Faulty Control Module

Driver Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor -V28- / Front Passenger Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor -V31- or Memory Seat/Steering Column Adjustment Control Module -J136- / Front Passenger Memory Seat Control Module -J521-, checking.

WARNING:
  • Follow all Safety Precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
  • Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching the door striker, for example.

-- Move the seat as far up as possible.

-- Remove tunnel side trim panel. Refer to SILL-SIDE TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, POWER STANDARD SEAT, WITH OR WITHOUT MEMORY FUNCTION .

NOTE:

Check electrical and electronic components and wires before removing seat further to avoid unnecessary repair costs.

-- Perform the following tests:

-- Replace the fuse if faulty. Refer to appropriate System Wiring Diagram.

-- If there is no voltage at the connector station, repair or replace the wire. Refer to appropriate System Wiring Diagram.

-- Replace the lower seat frame together with seat forward/back adjustment motor if the seat forward/back adjustment motor is faulty. Refer to SEAT PAN, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING .

-- If the control module is faulty: replace the control module -J136- / -J521-. Refer to MEMORY SEAT/STEERING COLUMN ADJUSTMENT CONTROL MODULE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Removing with faulty Driver Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor -V28- /Front Passenger Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor -V31-

CAUTION:
  • Loosen bolts -3- only after checking electrical or electronic components and wires.
  • After loosening the bolts -2-, replace the lower seat frame including the seat forward/back adjustment motor.
WARNING:

Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching the door striker, for example.

-- Turn on the ignition.

-- Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to Disconnecting .

-- Remove the bolts -3- (quantity: 4) on both sides.

I - Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor Threaded Connection on Sill Side

II - Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor Threaded Connection on Tunnel-Side

NOTE:

To remove the tunnel-side bolts, reach under the seat from the front.

WARNING:

Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching the door striker, for example.

-- Disconnect the connector on the seat forward/back adjustment motor.

-- Move seat until the bolts -1- (quantity: 4) are visible.

-- Remove the bolts.

-- Disconnect the harness connectors at the connector station. Refer to CONNECTORS, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

-- Connect the Airbag Lockout AdapterVAS6281. Refer to AIRBAG ADAPTER, CONNECTING AND DISCONNECTING .

-- Lift the front seat with a second technician and remove it from the vehicle.

-- Attach the front seat to the Engine/Transmission Holder - Seat Repair FixtureVAS6136. Refer to FRONT SEAT, MOUNTING ON FIXTURE FOR SEAT REPAIR .

-- Separate the lower frame -2- from the upper frame -1-. Refer to SEAT PAN, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING .

-- Replace the lower seat pan frame with seat forward/back adjustment motor SEAT PAN, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING .

Removing with a faulty Memory Seat/Steering Column Adjustment Control Module -J136- / Front Passenger Memory Seat Control Module -J521-

WARNING:
  • Follow all Safety Precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
  • Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching the door striker, for example.

-- Turn on the ignition.

-- Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to Disconnecting .

-- Disconnect the connector on the seat forward/back adjustment motor.

-- Connect the seat forward/back adjustment motor to an external power source and move the seat forward or back until the bolts -1- (quantity: 4) are visible.

-- Remove the bolts.

-- Disconnect the harness connectors at the connector station. Refer to CONNECTORS, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

-- Connect the Airbag Lockout AdapterVAS6281. Refer to AIRBAG ADAPTER, CONNECTING AND DISCONNECTING .

-- Lift the front seat with a second technician and remove it from the vehicle.

-- Attach the front seat to the Engine/Transmission Holder - Seat Repair FixtureVAS6136. Refer to FRONT SEAT, MOUNTING ON FIXTURE FOR SEAT REPAIR .

-- Replace the Memory Seat/Steering Column Adjustment Control Module -J136- / Front Passenger Memory Seat Control Module -J521-. Refer to MEMORY SEAT/STEERING COLUMN ADJUSTMENT CONTROL MODULE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Installing

WARNING:
  • Follow all Safety Precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
  • Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, connecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching the door striker, for example.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

-- Remove the Airbag Lockout AdapterVAS6281 only after installing the front seat. Refer to AIRBAG ADAPTER, CONNECTING AND DISCONNECTING .

-- Connect the connectors in the connector station. Refer to CONNECTORS, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

NOTE:

Make sure the connectors are installed correctly and are secure.

WARNING:

Ignition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (for example, airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. There must not be anyone inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

-- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to Connecting .

NOTE:

If the Airbag Indicator Lamp -K75- indicates a fault, check the DTC memory, erase it and check it again. Refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
