Seat Pan, Disassembling And Assembling
There are different seat pan upper frames: with and without a seat depth adjuster.
Disassembling and assembling a seat pan without a seat depth adjuster is described. The procedure is similar for a seat pan with a seat depth adjuster.
When removing seat pan, make sure the bushings in bearing points (upper and lower frame threaded connection) are not damaged. These bushings cannot be replaced with workshop materials.
The upper and lower frames of the seat pan cannot be separated on the following front seats: manual standard seat and manual sport seat.
The upper and lower seat pan frames can be separated from each other and replaced individually on the following front seats: power Standard seat, power Sport seat, Comfort seat and Super Sport seat.
Disassembling the lower seat frame
- Follow all Safety Precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
- Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching the door striker, for example.
-- Move the front seat as far up as possible to keep the torsion bar tension as low as possible.
-- Remove the front seat:
- Standard and Sport Power Seat, Comfort Seat and Super Sport Seat. Refer to FRONT SEAT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, POWER .
-- Remove the front backrest. Refer to FRONT BACKREST, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, STANDARD SEAT/SPORT SEAT/SUPER SPORT SEAT .
-- Remove the seat pan padding.
- Power standard seat and Comfort seat SEAT PAN COVER AND PADDING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, SEAT PAN WITHOUT SEAT DEPTH ADJUSTER .
- Power Sport seat SEAT PAN COVER AND PADDING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, SEAT PAN WITH SEAT DEPTH ADJUSTER .
Separating the upper frame from the lower frame
-- Disconnect the electrical connector on the seat forward/back adjustment motor.
-- Remove the torsion bar TORSION BAR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Danger of damaging the threaded holes or the bushing in the bearing points (connecting upper/ lower frame).
- A second technician must be pushing down on the seat backrest when removing the following bolts.
There is a risk of damaging the threads on the bolt -3-.
- The bolt on the adjusting spindle has left-hand threads.
-- Remove the bolt -3-.
-- Remove the bolts -2- (quantity: 4).
-- Remove the upper frame -1- upward from the lower frame -4-.
-- Be careful of bushings -1- in the bearing locations on seat pan lower frame -2-.
- Do not damage bushings -1- inserted in all bearing points when separating or disassembling upper and lower frame.
- The bushings cannot be replaced with workshop materials.
- If the bushings are damaged, replace the corresponding components.
Replacing the upper frame
If the upper frame will be replaced, remove the wires and electrical and electronic components listed and install them in the new upper frame.
-- Separate the upper and lower frames. Refer to SEAT PAN, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING - "Separating the upper frame from the lower frame" (See Fig 1).
-- Remove the bracket with the memory seat adjustment control module MEMORY SEAT/STEERING COLUMN ADJUSTMENT CONTROL MODULE BRACKET, REMOVING AND INSTALLING and MEMORY SEAT/STEERING COLUMN ADJUSTMENT CONTROL MODULE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the seat height adjustment motor SEAT HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT MOTOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the seat angle adjustment motor SEAT ANGLE ADJUSTMENT MOTOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the seat position sensor:
- SEAT POSITION SENSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, WITH PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM SENSOR FOR BELT FASTENING DETECTION .
- SEAT POSITION SENSOR WITH PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM FOR PASSENGER AIRBAG DEACTIVATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove wiring harnesses and individual wires from seat pan upper frame.
-- Install the removed electrical and electronic components and wires in the new upper frame.
Install in reverse order of removal.
Replacing the lower frame
If the lower frame will be replaced, remove the seat position sensor and install it in the new lower frame.
-- Separate the upper and lower frames. Refer to SEAT PAN, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING - "Separating the upper frame from the lower frame" (See Fig 1).
-- Remove the seat position sensor:
- SEAT POSITION SENSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, WITH PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM SENSOR FOR BELT FASTENING DETECTION .
- SEAT POSITION SENSOR WITH PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM FOR PASSENGER AIRBAG DEACTIVATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Disconnect the electrical connector on the seat forward/back adjustment motor.
-- Install the removed electrical and electronic components and wires in the new lower frame.
Assembling the lower seat frame
Assembly of the seat pan is performed in the reverse order of removal. Watch out for the following:
- Follow all Safety Precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
- Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, connecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching the door striker, for example.
Make sure the connectors are installed correctly and are secure.
Ignition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (for example, airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. There must not be anyone inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.
-- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to Connecting .
If the Airbag Indicator Lamp -K75- indicates a fault, check the DTC memory, erase it and check it again. Refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
