Headliner, Removing And Installing: Removing

WARNING:

-- Remove the upper left and right A-pillar trim. Refer to UPPER A-PILLAR TRIM OVERVIEW .

-- Fold 2nd row backrests and, if present, 3rd row backrests forward.

-- Move the driver and passenger seat all the way forward.

-- Move the backrest of the driver and passenger seat as far back as possible.

-- Remove the left and right B-pillar trim. Refer to B-PILLAR TRIM OVERVIEW .

-- Remove the left and right C-pillar trim from the body. Refer to C-PILLAR TRIM OVERVIEW .

NOTE:

The C-pillar trim can be left hanging on the seat belt webbing.

To remove the C-pillar trim, the wheel housing trim must be removed from body.

In order to remove trim, belt webbing must be guided out from seat belt through trim. That is not necessary when removing trim.

-- Remove the roof panel trim. Refer to ROOF PANEL TRIM OVERVIEW .

-- Remove the left and right D-pillar trim. Refer to D-PILLAR TRIM OVERVIEW .

-- Clean Trim Release LeverT10039 to avoid soiling headliner.

-- Let Trim Release LeverT10039 slide along between sunroof cover frame -2- and headliner -1- until it locates one of the 15 clips -3-.

-- Release clips one after another with Trim Release LeverT10039 as shown in illustration direction of -arrow-.

All Vehicles:

-- Remove sun visors and sun visor center bearing. Refer to SUN VISOR OVERVIEW .

-- Open glasses compartment -1- and release center cover -2- and -3- interior light/reading light -arrow-.

-- Release interior light/reading light diffusion lens -1- -arrow-.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.

-- Swing front interior light down and remove from roof trim.

-- Disconnect electrical connectors.

-- Remove screw -arrow- in interior lights/front reading lights roof opening.

-- Carefully pry Left Rear Interior Lamp -W47- /Right Rear Interior Lamp -W48- -1- and Rear Interior Lamp -W43- out of vehicle headliner opening with Trim Removal Wedge3409 -arrow-.

-- Disconnect electrical connector.

-- Remove front and rear roof grab handles. Refer to ROOF GRAB HANDLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Clean the lower left luggage compartment areas and upper right rear lid cut-out to avoid soiling the headliner. Tape off these areas or cover with foil if necessary.

NOTE:

Headliner must not be kinked; kinked headliner must be replaced.

2 technicians are needed to disconnect the last connections and remove headliner.

-- Remove assembly bridge/headliner screws -arrows- to body.

-- Unclip the screen separator wall mount covers. The covers remain hanging from the screen separating wall mount and cannot be removed.

-- Lower the headliner on the left side of the vehicle and guide the screen separator wall covers through the openings in the headliner.

-- Carefully removed headliner through rear lid opening.
