Transmission Installation

Special Tools Required
- Engine Support Hanger, A and Reds AAR-T1256*
- Engine Hanger Adapter VSB02C000015*
- Subframe Adapter VSB02C000016*
- Subframe Alignment Pin 070AG-SJAA10S
* Available through the Acura Tool and Equipment Program 888-424-6857
NOTE:
Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
- Make sure the two dowel pins (A) are undamaged and installed in prescribed holes on the engine block as shown. Replace the dowel pins if they are damaged.
- Check the release bearing, and reinstall the release bearing and the release fork with the appropriate grease (see TRANSMISSION SIDE ).
- Place the transmission on the transmission jack, and raise it to the engine level.
- Align the transmission mainshaft and the clutch pressure plate, then move the transmission inward until there is no gap between the transmission housing and the engine block.
- Install the lower transmission mounting bolts. Front side

- Install the clutch case cover (A).
- Install the intermediate shaft (see INTERMEDIATE SHAFT INSTALLATION ).
- Install both driveshafts (see DRIVESHAFT INSTALLATION ).
- Install the lower transmission mount (A) with new bolts.
- Install the rear engine mount bracket (A) with new bolts, then remove the transmission jack.
- Support the front subframe with the subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) and a jack.
- Position the steering gearbox washers (A) on the front subframe (B), and lift up the subframe until it is about 10 mm (0.4 in) away from the frame.
- Loosely install new four front subframe mounting bolts (C) with stiffeners (D), the new rear stiffener mounting bolts (E), and the front stiffener mounting bolts (F).
- Align the front subframe using the subframe alignment pin (A). Vertically install the subframe alignment pin, and align the right-rear corner of the subframe and the vehicle frame holes, then loosely tighten the subframe mounting bolt (B) until the front subframe contacts the body frame.
- Loosely tighten the left-rear subframe mounting bolt using the same procedure as the right-rear with the subframe alignment pin.
- Partially tighten the right and left front subframe mounting bolts.
- Tighten the right-rear subframe mounting bolt to the specified torque with the subframe alignment pin in the positioning hole.
- Tighten the left-rear subframe mounting bolt to the specified torque with the subframe alignment pin in the positioning hole.
- Tighten the right and left front subframe mounting bolts (A) to the specified torque.
- Tighten the rear and front stiffener mounting bolts to the specified torque.
- Retorque all of the front subframe mounting bolts.
- Remove the jack and the subframe adapter (VSB02C000016).
- Install the nuts (A) securing the lower transmission mount.
- Connect the EPS ground subharness connector at the front of the front subframe.
- Install the front subframe middle mount (A) with new mounting bolts, and tighten them to the specified torque on both sides.
- Install exhaust pipe A with the gaskets (see EXHAUST PIPE AND MUFFLER REPLACEMENT ).
- Refill the transmission with MTF to the proper level (see TRANSMISSION FLUID INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENT ).
- Install the front splash shield (see FRONT SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT ).
- Connect the knuckle ball joint onto the lower arm (see step 11 on WHEEL BEARING REPLACEMENT ).
- Install the damper fork (see step 4 on LOWER ARM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
- Clean the mating surfaces between the brake disc and the inside of the wheel, then install the front wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the upper transmission mounting bolts (A).
- Install transmission hanger C to the transmission housing.
- Loosely install the upper transmission mount bracket (A) to the transmission housing with new bolts.NOTE: If TORX bolt (B) was removed by mistake during removal, the upper transmission mount bracket must be replaced as an assembly.
- Install new rear engine mount bracket upper mounting bolt (A).
- Loosely install new rear engine mount bolts (B).
- Connect the vacuum hose (A).
- Loosely install new front engine mount bolt (B).NOTE: Install the front engine mount stop (C) and the vacuum hose bracket (D) after tightening the front engine mount bolt to the specified torque.
- Remove the A and Reds engine support hanger (AAR-T1256) and the engine hanger adapter (VSB02C000015).
- Tighten the rear engine mount bolts to the specified torque.
- Tighten the upper transmission mount bracket bolts to the specified torque.
- Tighten the front engine mount bolt to the specified torque, then install the vacuum hose bracket and the engine mount stop with new nuts (E).
- Install the engine harness clamp bracket (A).
- Install the ignition coil cover (A).
- Set the steering gearbox into position, then loosely install the all four steering gearbox mounting bolts with top washers (A).NOTE: Make sure the lower washers placed in step 12 are correctly positioned before installing the bolts.
Driver's side

Passenger's side
- Tighten the front/driver's side of the steering gearbox mounting bolt (B) to the specified torque.
- Tighten the front/passenger's side of the steering gearbox mounting bolt (C) to the specified torque.
- Tighten the rear/driver's side of the steering gearbox mounting bolt (D) to the specified torque.
- Tighten the rear/passenger's side of the steering gearbox mounting bolt (E) to the specified torque.
- Retorque all of the steering gearbox mounting bolts in the same sequence that they were tightened.
- Install the bracket (A), then install the harness clamp (B) and the hose (C) to the bracket.
- Connect the back-up light switch connector (A) and the reverse lockout solenoid connector (B), then install the harness clamp (C).
- Connect the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector (D), and install the harness clamp (E).
- Apply a light coat of silicone grease (P/N 08C30-B0234M) to the cable ends (A), and connect the cable end to the change lever assembly (B), then install the shift cable bracket (C) and the lock pins (D). Do not bend or damage the shift cables.NOTE: Make sure not to get any silicone grease on the terminal part of the connectors and switches, especially if you have silicone grease on your hands or gloves.
- Install the under-hood fuse/relay box (A).
- Apply a light coat of super high temp urea grease (P/N 08798-9002) to the end of slave cylinder push rod (A).
- Install the clutch hose bracket (B), then install the slave cylinder (C). Be careful not to bend the clutch line.
- Install the battery base (A) and the ground cable clamp (B).
- Install the ECM (see ECM/PCM REPLACEMENT ).
- Install the strut brace (see STRUT BRACE REPLACEMENT ).
- Install the front grille cover (see FRONT GRILLE COVER REPLACEMENT ).
- Install the air cleaner housing (see AIR CLEANER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
- Install the intake air duct (see step 9 on EXHAUST PIPE AND MUFFLER REPLACEMENT ).
- Do the battery installation procedure (see BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ).
- Check the wheel alignment (see WHEEL ALIGNMENT ).
- Check the shift lever and the clutch operation.
- Test-drive the vehicle.
