Cylinder Head And Cover Assembly Overview

- Bolt, 10 Nm
- Bracket
- For the fuel lines.
- Bolt/Nut, 10 Nm
- With spacer sleeve and seal.
- Replace the seal if damaged.
- Cap
- Replace the gaskets if damaged.
- O-ring
- Replace if damaged.
- Lubricate before assembling.
- For the ignition coils with power output stages.
- Cylinder Head Cover
- Removing and installing, refer to CYLINDER HEAD COVER .
- Replace if damaged.
- Lifting Eye
- Bolt, 23 Nm
- Camshaft Roller Chain
- Mark the direction of rotation before removing (installed position). Refer to Figure.
- Installing, refer to VALVE TIMING, ADJUSTING .
- Combination Valve
- Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 -N205-
- For the intake camshaft.
- Removing and installing, refer to CAMSHAFT ADJUSTER VALVES .
- Before disconnecting, mark the allocation of the connector to the component.
- Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 (Exhaust) -N318-
- For the exhaust camshaft.
- Removing and installing, refer to CAMSHAFT ADJUSTER VALVES .
- Before disconnecting, mark the allocation of the connector to the component.
- O-ring
- For the oil channel seal.
- Always replace.
- Lubricate before assembling.
- Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor 2 -G163-
- For the exhaust camshaft.
- Before disconnecting, mark the allocation of the connector to the component.
- Chain Tensioner, 40 Nm
- For the camshaft roller chain -item 9-.
- Only rotate the engine with the chain tensioner installed.
- Seal
- Replace if damaged or leaking.
- Stud Bolt, 8 Nm
- Seals
- For the camshaft adjustment valve 1, -item 11- and the camshaft adjustment valve 1 (exhaust), -item 12-.
- Replace if damaged or leaking.
- Installing, refer to Figure.
- Coolant Thermostat Housing
- Assembly overview, refer to COOLANT THERMOSTAT HOUSING ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .
- Coolant hose connection diagram, refer to COOLANT HOSE CONNECTION DIAGRAM .
- Seal
- Always replace.
- Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor -G40-
- For the intake camshaft.
- Before disconnecting, mark the allocation of the connector to the component.
- Timing Chain Cover
- Can be removed and installed with the engine installed.
- Assembly overview, refer to TIMING CHAIN COVER ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .
- If only the cover has been removed, prepare the cylinder head gasket for installation. Refer to CYLINDER HEAD GASKET, PREPARING FOR ASSEMBLY .
- With the O-ring -item 13- for the oil channel seal.
- Bolt, 60 Nm + 90° (1/4) additional turn
- Always replace.
- The contact surface of the sensor wheel and the bolt head must be dry when installing.
- To remove and install, counter hold the camshaft using a 32 mm open end wrench. Refer to CAMSHAFTS .
- Exhaust Camshaft Adjuster
- Identification: 32A.
- Only rotate the engine with the camshaft adjuster installed.
- Installing, refer to VALVE TIMING, ADJUSTING .
- Guide Rail
- For the camshaft roller chain -item 9-.
- Clipped onto the control housing.
- Intake Camshaft Adjuster
- Identification: 24E.
- Only rotate the engine with the camshaft adjuster installed.
- Installing, refer to VALVE TIMING, ADJUSTING .
- Lifting Eye
- Cylinder Head Gasket
- Metal gasket.
- Always replace.
- Prepare the cylinder head gasket for installation. Refer to CYLINDER HEAD GASKET, PREPARING FOR ASSEMBLY .
- After replacing, replace the coolant.
- Cylinder Head
- Check for distortion, Refer to Fig 2.
- Removing and installing, refer to CYLINDER HEAD .
- After replacing, replace the coolant.
- Belt Tensioner
- For the ribbed belt.
- Removing and installing the ribbed belt. Refer to RIBBED BELT .
- Cylinder Head Bolt
- Always replace.
- Observe the installation instructions and sequence when loosening and tightening. Refer to CYLINDER HEAD .
- Cylinder Head Cover Gasket
- Replace if damaged or leaking.
- Note the installed position.

- Straight edge
- Feeler gauge
Max. permissible distortion: 0.05 mm.
