Engine, disassembling and assembling: Notes

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 11 other vehicles, including the 1999 Volkswagen Jetta, 1999 Volkswagen GTI, 1998 Volkswagen Jetta, 1998 Volkswagen GTI, and 1997 Volkswagen Jetta. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: If large amounts of metal shavings or small metal particles are found in the engine oil, caused by wear or damage to the crankshaft and connecting rod bearings:
  • Thoroughly clean all the oil passages to remove the contaminants and help prevent additional engine damage.
  • The oil spray nozzles, the oil non-return valve and the oil cooler cannot be sufficiently cleaned, and must be replaced.
