Removal [08/2015 - 08/2018]: Procedure

  1. PRECAUTION 
    NOTE:

    After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work. Refer to PRECAUTION [08/2015 - 08/2017] , or refer to PRECAUTION [08/2017 - 08/2019] .

  2. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    WARNING:

    Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    NOTE:

    When disconnecting the cable some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2015 - 08/2017] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2017 - 08/2018] .

  4. DRAIN ENGINE OIL 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  5. REMOVE HOOD SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a screwdriver, release the 2 clips and remove the hood support assembly.

      HINT: 

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

      WARNING:

      Remove the hood support assembly while supporting the hood by hand.

    2. Remove the 4 bolts and hood.
  6. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the windshield wiper motor. Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] .
  7. REMOVE COWL TOP OUTER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the 2 washer hoses.
    2. Remove the 7 bolts and outer panel.

  8. REMOVE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the radiator assembly. Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2018] .
  9. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the transmission assembly. Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] .
  10. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4

  11. REMOVE AIR CLEANER HOSE ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3

  12. DISCONNECT INLET HEATER WATER HOSE C 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6

  13. DISCONNECT OUTLET HEATER WATER HOSE C 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 7

  14. DISCONNECT VACUUM HOSE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the brake booster.

  15. REMOVE FUEL VAPOR FEED HOSE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the fuel vapor feed hose.

  16. DISCONNECT FUEL MAIN AND RETURN HOSE 
    1. Remove the fuel pipe clamp.

    2. Disconnect the fuel main and return hoses. Refer to PRECAUTION [08/2015 - 08/2018] .
  17. SEPARATE ECM 
    1. Disconnect the clamp and ECM connector.

      HINT: 

      Refer to the following procedures to disconnect the ECM connector. Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3 .

  18. SEPARATE ENGINE WIRE 
    1. Disconnect the 4 connectors from the connector holder block.

    2. Remove the nut and connector bracket and disconnect the 2 air pump connectors.

    3. Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground wire.
    4. Disconnect the 2 air injection system hoses.
    5. Remove the nut and disconnect the wire from the positive (+) battery cable.

    6. Disconnect the cable from the positive (+) battery terminal.
    7. Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground wire.
    8. Disconnect the 4 air injection control driver connectors.
    9. Remove the nut and disconnect the wire and 2 clips from the engine room junction block.
    10. Disconnect the 2 connectors and 2 clips from the engine room junction block.
  19. DISCONNECT NO. 3 AIR INJECTION SYSTEM HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4

  20. DISCONNECT NO. 2 AIR INJECTION SYSTEM HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5

  21. SEPARATE COOLER COMPRESSOR ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

  22. REMOVE GENERATOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the generator assembly. Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2018] .
  23. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD 
    1. Remove the exhaust manifold. Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2018] .
  24. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND RING GEAR SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using SST, hold the crankshaft.

      • SST: 09213-70011 
      • SST: 09330-00021 
    2. Remove the 10 bolts, rear drive plate spacer, drive plate and crankshaft angle sensor rotor.

  25. REMOVE NO. 1 WATER BY-PASS PIPE 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the hose, and then remove the water by-pass pipe.

  26. REMOVE OIL COOLER TUBE 
    1. Remove the bolt and oil cooler tube from the oil pan.
  27. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the 2 engine hangers with the 2 bolts as shown in the illustration.

      Torque: 43 N.m (438 kgf/cm, 32 ft.lbf) 

      HINT: 

      Item Part No.
      Engine hanger 12281-38150
      Bolt 90119-A0166
    2. Attach an engine sling device and hang the engine with a chain block.
    3. Remove the 4 engine mounting insulator bolts.

    4. Lift the engine out from the vehicle slowly and carefully.
      NOTE:

      Make sure the engine is clear of all wiring, hoses and cables.

  28. INSTALL ENGINE ON ENGINE STAND 
    1. Install the engine onto an engine stand with the bolts.
    2. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 engine hangers.
