Installation [08/2015 - 08/2018]: Procedure

  1. REMOVE ENGINE STAND 
    1. Install the 2 engine hangers with the 2 bolts as shown in the illustration.

      Torque: 43 N.m (438 kgf/cm, 32 ft.lbf) 

      HINT: 

      Item Part No.
      Engine hanger 12281-38150
      Bolt 90119-A0166
    2. Attach an engine sling device and hang the engine with a chain block.
    3. Remove the bolts and engine assembly from the engine stand.
  2. INSTALL ENGINE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Slowly lower the engine assembly into the engine compartment.
      NOTE:

      Make sure that the engine is clear of all wiring and hoses.

    2. Attach the engine mounting insulators to the vehicle.
    3. Install the 4 engine mounting insulator bolts.

      Torque: 79 N.m (806 kgf/cm, 58 ft.lbf) 

    4. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 engine hangers.
  3. INSTALL OIL COOLER TUBE 
    1. Install the oil cooler tube with the bolt.

      Torque: 14 N.m (143 kgf/cm, 10 ft.lbf) 

  4. INSTALL NO. 1 WATER BY-PASS PIPE 
    1. Connect the hose and install the water by-pass pipe with the 2 bolts.

      Torque: 18 N.m (184 kgf/cm, 13 ft.lbf) 

  5. INSTALL DRIVE PLATE AND RING GEAR SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using SST, hold the crankshaft.

      • SST: 09213-70011 
      • SST: 09330-00021 
    2. Install the crankshaft angle sensor rotor.

      Engine Side

      HINT: 

      • Align the pin hole of the crankshaft angle sensor rotor with the pin of the crankshaft.
      • As the crankshaft angle sensor rotor is not reversible, be sure to install it so that it is facing in the direction shown in the illustration.
    3. Install the drive plate and rear drive plate spacer onto the crankshaft.

      HINT: 

      As the rear drive plate spacer and the drive plate are not reversible, be sure to install them so that they are facing in the direction shown in the illustration.

    4. Install the drive plate and ring gear and bolts.

      HINT: 

      The bolts are tightened in 2 progressive steps.

      1. Clean the bolts and bolt holes.
      2. Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads of the 8 bolts.

      3. Step 1:

        Install and uniformly tighten 10 new bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.

        Torque: 30 N.m (306 kgf/cm, 22 ft.lbf) 

        NOTE:
        • Do not reuse the drive plate installation bolts.
        • Do not strike or damage the drive plate installation bolts. Be sure to handle them carefully.
      4. Mark the top of each drive plate installation bolt with paint.
      5. Step 2:

        Tighten the drive plate installation bolts 90° as shown in the illustration.

      6. Check that the painted marks are now at a 90° angle to the top.
        NOTE:

        Do not start the engine for at least an hour after installing the drive plate.

  6. INSTALL EXHAUST MANIFOLD 
    1. Install the exhaust manifold. Refer to INSTALLATION [08/2015 - 08/2018] .
  7. INSTALL GENERATOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the generator assembly. Refer to INSTALLATION [08/2015 - 08/2018] .
  8. INSTALL COOLER COMPRESSOR ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 29

  9. CONNECT NO. 2 AIR INJECTION SYSTEM HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5

  10. CONNECT NO. 3 AIR INJECTION SYSTEM HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6

  11. INSTALL ENGINE WIRE 
    1. Connect the 2 connectors and 2 clips to the engine room junction block.

    2. Install the engine wire with the nut. Then connect the 2 clips.

      Torque: 10 N.m (102 kgf/cm, 7 ft.lbf) 

    3. Connect the 4 air injection control driver connectors.
    4. Install the ground wire with the bolt.

      Torque: 8.0 N.m (82 kgf/cm, 71 in.lbf) 

    5. Connect the cable to the positive (+) battery terminal.
    6. Install the wire to the positive (+) battery cable with the nut.

      Torque: 13 N.m (133 kgf/cm, 10 ft.lbf) 

    7. Connect the 2 air injection system hoses.

    8. Install the ground wire with the bolt.

      Torque: 8.0 N.m (82 kgf/cm, 71 in.lbf) 

    9. Connect the 2 air pump connectors and install the connector bracket with the nut.

      Torque: 6.0 N.m (61 kgf/cm, 53 in.lbf) 

    10. Connect the 4 connectors to the connector holder block.

    11. Connect the heater hoses.
  12. INSTALL ECM 
    1. Connect the ECM connector and clamp.

      HINT: 

      Refer to the following procedures to connect the ECM connector. Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2 .

  13. CONNECT FUEL MAIN AND RETURN HOSE 
    1. Connect the fuel main and return hoses. Refer to PRECAUTION [08/2015 - 08/2018] .

    2. Install the fuel pipe clamp.
  14. CONNECT FUEL VAPOR FEED HOSE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Connect the purge line hose.

  15. CONNECT VACUUM HOSE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Connect the union to check valve hose.

  16. CONNECT OUTLET HEATER WATER HOSE C 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 35

  17. CONNECT INLET HEATER WATER HOSE C 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 36

  18. INSTALL AIR CLEANER HOSE ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

  19. INSTALL AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 14

  20. INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the transmission assembly. Refer to INSTALLATION [08/2015 - ] .
  21. INSTALL RADIATOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the radiator assembly. Refer to INSTALLATION [08/2015 - 08/2018] .
  22. ADD ENGINE OIL 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9

  23. ADD ENGINE COOLANT 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3

  24. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    NOTE:

    When disconnecting the cable some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2015 - 08/2017] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2017 - 08/2018] .

    Torque: 5.4 N.m (55 kgf/cm, 48 in.lbf) 

  25. INSPECT FOR OIL LEAK 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10

  26. INSPECT FOR COOLANT LEAK 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  27. INSPECT FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

  28. INSPECT FOR FUEL LEAK 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11

  29. INSTALL COWL TOP OUTER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the outer panel with the 7 bolts.

      Torque: 7.5 N.m (76 kgf/cm, 66 in.lbf) 

    2. Connect the 2 washer hoses.
  30. INSTALL WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the windshield wiper motor. Refer to INSTALLATION [08/2015 - ] .
  31. INSTALL HOOD SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the hood with the 4 bolts.

      Torque: 13 N.m (133 kgf/cm, 10 ft.lbf) 

    2. Attach the lower part of the 2 hood supports to the hood support bolt ball joints.
      NOTE:

      Install the hood support while supporting the hood by hand.

    3. Attach the hood support clips.
      NOTE:

      Check that the hood support is engaged in the ball joint and that it cannot be pulled out.

  33. ALCOHOL DENSITY LEARNING INITIALIZATION
