Installation [08/2017 - ]: Procedure
- INSTALL TRANSMISSION CASE PLUG ASSEMBLY
- Coat the O-ring with ATF.
- Install the transmission case plug assembly to the automatic transaxle assembly.
- INSTALL NO. 1 TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET
- Install the No. 1 transmission control cable bracket to the automatic transaxle assembly with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 12 N*m (122 kgf*cm, 9 ft.*lbf)
- Install the No. 1 transmission control cable bracket to the automatic transaxle assembly with the 2 bolts.
- INSTALL WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR
- INSTALL BREATHER HOSE BRACKET
- Install the breather hose bracket to the automatic transaxle assembly with the bolt.
Torque: 20 N*m (204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)
- Attach the transmission breather hose sub-assembly to the breather hose bracket.
- Install the breather hose bracket to the automatic transaxle assembly with the bolt.
- INSTALL WIRE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET
- Install the 2 wire harness clamp brackets to the automatic transaxle assembly with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 19.1 N*m (195 kgf*cm, 14 ft.*lbf)
- Install the 2 wire harness clamp brackets to the automatic transaxle assembly with the 2 bolts.
- INSTALL ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET LH
- Clean the bolts and the installation holes in the engine mounting bracket LH.
- Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads on the ends of the 4 bolts.
Adhesive
Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324 or equivalent
- Install the engine mounting bracket LH to the automatic transaxle assembly with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 64 N*m (653 kgf*cm, 47 ft.*lbf)
- INSTALL REAR ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET
- Install the rear engine mounting bracket to the automatic transaxle assembly with the 3 bolts.
Torque: 45 N*m (459 kgf*cm, 33 ft.*lbf)
- Install the rear engine mounting bracket to the automatic transaxle assembly with the 3 bolts.
- INSTALL FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET
- INSTALL REAR ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR
- INSTALL TRANSFER AND TRANSAXLE SETTING STUD BOLT
- Transfer Side:
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 31
- Clean the bolt holes.
- Apply adhesive 1324 to 2 or 3 threads on one half of a new transfer and transaxle setting stud bolt A as shown in the illustration.

Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324 or equivalent
NOTE:- Do not apply adhesive 1324 to the ends of the stud bolt.
- Install the stud bolt immediately after applying adhesive to prevent the adherence of foreign matter.
- Install the 2 new transfer and transaxle setting stud bolts to the transaxle case positions shown in the illustration.
Torque: 39.2 N*m (400 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf)
NOTE:Install the stud bolt so that the side that has sealant and adhesive is facing the automatic transaxle assembly.
HINT:
Stud bolt length:
Stud bolt A: 69 mm (2.72 in.)
Stud bolt B: 47 mm (1.85 in.)
- Transfer Side:
- INSTALL TRANSFER ASSEMBLY
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2
- INSTALL TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY
- Engage the splines of the input shaft and turbine runner.
- Engage the splines of the stator shaft and the stator while turning the torque converter assembly.
HINT:
If the stator shaft splines are difficult to engage with the stator splines, move the torque converter assembly back approximately 10 mm and engage the splines while rotating the torque converter assembly.
- Turn the torque converter assembly to insert the key of the oil pump drive gear into the groove of the torque converter assembly.
- Clean the torque converter assembly set bolt holes.
- Using a vernier caliper and straightedge, measure dimension A between the transaxle contact surface of the engine*a and the torque converter assembly contact surface of the drive plate*b.
*a Engine Surface *b Drive Plate Surface NOTE:Make sure to deduct the thickness of the straightedge.
- Using a vernier caliper and straightedge, measure dimension B shown in the illustration and check that dimension B is more than dimension A, which was measured in the previous step.
Standard
A + 1 mm (0.0394 in.) or more
NOTE:- Make sure to deduct the thickness of the straightedge.
- If the automatic transaxle assembly is installed to the engine with the torque converter assembly not sufficiently inserted, the torque converter assembly may be damaged.
- Do not include the thickness of the set block.
- Engage the splines of the input shaft and turbine runner.
- INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY
- Apply clutch spline grease to the surface of the crankshaft that contacts the torque converter assembly centerpiece.

Maximum grease amount
Approximately 1 g (0.0353 oz.)
- While keeping the engine and automatic transaxle assembly horizontal, align the knock pins with the holes in the automatic transaxle assembly and temporarily install the 9 bolts shown in the illustration.NOTE:
- Confirm that the 2 knock pins are installed to the transaxle contact surface of the engine cylinder block before installing the automatic transaxle assembly.
- Do not forcibly pry on the automatic transaxle assembly.
- Check that the drive plate rotates smoothly after installation of the automatic transaxle assembly.
- Make sure that the contact surfaces of the engine assembly and automatic transaxle assembly are flat against each other before temporarily install the bolts.
- Make sure that the wire harness or other similar items are not pinched between the contact surfaces.
- In order to protect the automatic transaxle oil pan sub-assembly, place attachments on the transmission jack.
- Make sure that the attachments and automatic transaxle oil pan sub-assembly are centered on the transmission jack.
- To prevent the automatic transaxle oil pan sub-assembly from being deformed, do not place any attachments under the automatic transaxle oil pan sub-assembly.
- Secure the automatic transaxle assembly to the transmission jack using a belt, etc. to prevent it from falling.
HINT:
Bolt length:
Bolt A: 33 mm (1.30 in.)
Bolt B: 50 mm (1.97 in.)
Bolt C: 55 mm (2.17 in.)
- Temporarily install the engine mounting bracket LH with the through bolt and nut.

- Apply clutch spline grease to the surface of the crankshaft that contacts the torque converter assembly centerpiece.
- INSTALL FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR
- INSTALL FRONT CROSS MEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY
- TIGHTEN FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR
- Tighten the through bolt and nut of the front engine mounting insulator.
Torque: 145 N*m (1479 kgf*cm, 107 ft.*lbf)
NOTE:While holding the nut in place, tighten the through bolt.
- Tighten the through bolt and nut of the front engine mounting insulator.
- TIGHTEN AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY
- INSTALL FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER
Refer to INSTALLATION [12/2012 - ]
- TIGHTEN ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET LH
- Tighten the engine mounting insulator LH with the through bolt and nut.
Torque: 56 N*m (571 kgf*cm, 41 ft.*lbf)
NOTE:While holding the bolt in place, tighten the nut.
- Tighten the engine mounting insulator LH with the through bolt and nut.
- REMOVE ENGINE SUPPORT BRIDGE
- Remove SST from the vehicle body.NOTE:
Prevent SST from contacting the vehicle body or windshield.
- Remove SST from the vehicle body.
- REMOVE ENGINE HANGER
- CONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
- Connect the transmission control cable assembly to the No. 1 transmission control cable bracket with a new clip.
- Turn the control shaft lever clockwise until it stops, and then turn it counterclockwise 2 notches.
- Connect the transmission control cable assembly to the control shaft lever with the nut.
Torque: 12 N*m (122 kgf*cm, 9 ft.*lbf)
- CONNECT WIRE HARNESS
- Connect the ECM connector and lower the lever.NOTE:
- When connecting a connector, make sure that dirt, water and other foreign matter is not stuck between the connector and ECM.
- Make sure that the lever is securely lowered.
- Connect the 2 clamps and wire harness.
- Connect the wire harness to the body with the bolt.
Torque: 8.4 N*m (86 kgf*cm, 74 in.*lbf)
- Attach the 5 wire harness clamps and connect the park/neutral position switch connector.
- Connect the connector to the wiring harness connector and turn the lock lever and secure the connector with the lock lever.
- Connect the ground cable with the bolt.
Torque: 19.1 N*m (195 kgf*cm, 14 ft.*lbf)
- Connect the ECM connector and lower the lever.
- CONNECT TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER
- Install the transmission oil cooler to the front engine mounting bracket with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 13.5 N*m (138 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf)
*A w/ Water Cooler *B w/o Water Cooler - w/ Water Cooler:
*a White Paint Mark - Slide the clip and connect the No. 2 transmission oil cooler hose from the automatic transaxle assembly.NOTE:
- Make sure that the paint marks are in the position shown in the illustration.
- Make sure that the claws in the illustration are facing toward the front end of the vehicle.
- Slide the clip and connect the No. 2 transmission oil cooler hose from the automatic transaxle assembly.
- Connect the oil cooler inlet hose and oil cooler outlet hose, and slide the 2 clips to secure the hose.NOTE:
- Make sure that the paint marks are in the position shown in the illustration.
- Make sure that the claws in the illustration are facing toward the front end of the vehicle.

- Install the transmission oil cooler to the front engine mounting bracket with the 2 bolts.
- INSTALL FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
Refer to INSTALLATION [08/2016 - ]
- INSTALL DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY SETTING BOLT
- Remove any adhesive remaining in the 6 bolt holes of the torque converter assembly and 6 drive plate and torque converter setting assembly bolts.
- Apply a few drops of adhesive to 2 or 3 threads at the tip of each of the 6 drive plate and torque converter assembly setting bolts.
Adhesive
Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324 or equivalent
- Turn the crankshaft to gain access to the installation locations of the 6 drive plate and torque converter assembly setting bolts and install each bolt while holding the crankshaft pulley with SST.
- SST: 09213-5401509330-00021
Torque: 41 N*m (418 kgf*cm, 30 ft.*lbf)
HINT:
- First install the black-colored bolt, and then the remaining 5 silver-colored bolts.
- Part number of installation bolt for SST (crankshaft pulley holding tool): 91551-80650 (quantity: 2)
- Install the flywheel housing under cover.
- INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Using a vernier caliper, measure the free length of the compression spring.
Minimum length
41.5 mm (1.63 in.)
If the length is less than the minimum, replace the compression spring.
- Using a wire brush, remove any foreign matter from the gasket installation surface.
- Using a plastic-faced hammer and wooden block, tap in a new gasket until its surface is flush with the exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly.
*1 Gasket *2 Wooden Block NOTE:- Be sure to install the gasket so that it faces the correct direction.
- Do not reuse the gasket.
- Do not damage the gasket.
- When connecting the front exhaust pipe assembly, do not push in the gasket with the front exhaust pipe assembly.
- Install the front exhaust pipe sub-assembly to the exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly with the 2 compression springs and 2 bolts.
Torque: 43 N*m (438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf)
- Install a new gasket to the front exhaust pipe sub-assembly.
- Connect the front exhaust pipe sub-assembly to the front No. 2 exhaust pipe sub-assembly with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 43 N*m (438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf)
- Using a vernier caliper, measure the free length of the compression spring.
