Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Toyota Land Cruiser. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON / OFF INDICATOR (PERFORM SENSITIVITY CHECK) 
    1. Perform the sensitivity check (see INITIALIZATION  ).

    OK: Go to step   7 

    NG: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  2. PERFORM ZERO POINT CALIBRATION 
    1. Connect the intelligent tester (with CAN VIM) to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    3. Using the intelligent tester, perform the zero point calibration (see INITIALIZATION  ).
  3. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON / OFF INDICATOR (PERFORM SENSITIVITY CHECK) 
    1. Perform the sensitivity check (see INITIALIZATION  ).

    OK: END 

    NG: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  4. READ VALUE OF INTELLIGENT TESTER (PASSENGER SIDE BUCKLE SWITCH) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    2. Using the intelligent tester, read the DATA LIST.
      1. Read the display when the passenger side buckle switch is operated.

        Occupant classification ECU 

        OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION ECU - PASSENGER SIDE BUCKLE SWITCH

        OK: The tester display changes correctly in accordance with the operation of the buckle switch. 

    NG: REPLACE FRONT SEAT INNER BELT ASSEMBLY RH 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  5. READ VALUE OF INTELLIGENT TESTER (SEAT BELT TENSION SENSOR) 
    1. Fasten the passenger side seat belt.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    3. Using the intelligent tester, read the value of the DATA LIST.

    Occupant classification ECU 

    OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION ECU - SEAT BELT TENSION SENSOR

    OK: When there is no tension on the belt, 39 to 229 is displayed on the tester. 

    NG: REPLACE FRONT SEAT OUTER BELT ASSEMBLY RH 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  6. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON / OFF INDICATOR (PERFORM SENSITIVITY CHECK) 
    1. Perform the sensitivity check (see INITIALIZATION  ).

    OK: END 

    NG: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  7. CHECK CONNECTOR 
    1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the following connectors are connected properly.
      • Center airbag sensor connector.
      • Occupant classification ECU connector.
      • Occupant classification sensor connector.
      • Belt tension sensor (front seat outer belt RH) connector.
      • Front seat inner belt RH connector.
      • Seat position sensor connector.

      OK: The connectors are properly connected. 

    4. Disconnect the following connectors.
      • Center airbag sensor connector.
      • Occupant classification ECU connector.
      • Occupant classification sensor connector.
      • Belt tension sensor (front seat outer belt RH) connector.
      • Front seat inner belt RH connector.
      • Seat position sensor connector.
    5. Check that the terminals of the connectors are not damaged.

      OK: The terminals are not deformed or damaged. 

      NOTE: Perform the zero point calibration if wire harnesses or connectors are repaired or replaced (see INITIALIZATION  ).

      HINT:

      If the connectors are not connected securely, reconnect the connectors and proceed to the next inspection.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  8. READ VALUE OF INTELLIGENT TESTER (PASSENGER CLASS) 
    1. Connect the intelligent tester (with CAN VIM) to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
    3. Place a weight of 20 kg (44.0 lb) on the front passenger seat.
      NOTE:
      • Do not let the weight come into contact with the seatback when placing it on the seat cushion.
      • Place the weight in the area shown.

    4. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    5. Using the intelligent tester, read the value of the DATA LIST (see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE TABLE  ).

      Occupant classification ECU 

      OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION ECU (1 OF 2)

      AM50: Adult is seated and seat is rear position

      OK: The tester displays CHILD. 

    6. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
    7. Add 30 kg (66.1 lb) weight on the front passenger seat.
      NOTE:
      • Do not let the weight come into contact with the seatback when placing it on the seat cushion.
      • Place the weight in the area shown.

    8. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    9. Using the intelligent tester, read the value of the DATA LIST (see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE TABLE  ).

      HINT:

      AF05 appears on the tester screen display when the seat is in the front position, and AM50 appears when the seat is in the rear position.

      Occupant classification ECU 

      OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION ECU (2 OF 2)

      OK: The tester displays AM50 or AF50 according to the seat position. 

    NG: Go to step   12 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  9. REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR 
    1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Replace the center airbag sensor (see REMOVAL  ).
  10. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON / OFF INDICATOR (PERFORM SENSITIVITY CHECK) 
    1. Perform the sensitivity check (see INITIALIZATION  ).

    OK: END 

    NG: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  11. REPLACE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION ECU 
    1. Connect the intelligent tester (with CAN VIM) to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    3. Store the occupant classification ECU data into the intelligent tester (see REGISTRATION  ).

      HINT:

      If the ECU data cannot be stored in the intelligent tester, replace the front seat cushion (with occupant classification ECU and occupant classification sensor).

    4. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    6. Replace the occupant classification ECU (see REMOVAL  ).
    7. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    8. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    9. Load the data from the previous ECU stored in the tester into the newly installed ECU (see REGISTRATION  ).

    END 

  12. REPLACE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION ECU 
    1. Connect the intelligent tester (with CAN VIM) to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    3. Store the occupant classification ECU data into the intelligent tester (see REGISTRATION  ).

      HINT:

      If the ECU data cannot be stored in the intelligent tester, replace the front seat cushion (with occupant classification ECU and occupant classification sensor).

    4. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    6. Replace the occupant classification ECU (see REMOVAL  ).
    7. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    8. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    9. Load the data from the previous ECU stored in the tester into the newly installed ECU (see REGISTRATION  ).
  13. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON / OFF INDICATOR (PERFORM SENSITIVITY CHECK) 
    1. Perform the sensitivity check (see INITIALIZATION  ).

    OK: END 

    NG: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  14. REPLACE FRONT SEAT CUSHION ASSEMBLY (WITH OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION ECU AND SENSOR) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Replace the front seat cushion (with occupant classification ECU and occupant classification sensor) (see REMOVAL ).
    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    5. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    6. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR  ).

      HINT:

      First clear DTCs stored in the occupant classification ECU and then in the center airbag sensor.

    7. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
    8. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    9. Check the DTCs (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR  ).

      OK: DTC B1774 and B1775 are not output. 

      HINT:

      DTCs other than B1774 and B1775 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

  15. PERFORM ZERO POINT CALIBRATION 
    1. Connect the intelligent tester (with CAN VIM) to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    3. Using the intelligent tester, perform the zero point calibration (see INITIALIZATION  ).

    END
