Inspection Procedure

  1. PREPARE FOR INSPECTION 
    1. Check that both of the following conditions are satisfied.
      • The brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir is correct.
      • The parking brake is released.

      HINT:

      When the ABS warning light remains illuminated, repair the malfunctions in the ABS system first.

  2. CHECK DTC 
    1. Check if any ABS DTCs are output (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).

      Result 

      RESULT CHART

      Result Proceed to
      DTC not output A
      DTC output B

    B: REPAIR CIRCUITS INDICATED BY OUTPUT DTCS (See  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART   ) 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check if the CAN communication system DTC is output (See DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM ).

      Result 

      RESULT CHART

      Result Proceed to
      DTC not output A
      DTC output B

    B: REPAIR CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM  (See HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING )

    A: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION 
    1. Check if the skid control ECU connector is connected securely.

      OK: 

      The connector is connected securely. 

    NG: CONNECTOR CORRECTLY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the tester on.
    4. Select the following menu items: Chassis / ABS/VSC/ TRAC / Data List.

      DATA LIST: ABS 

      ABS DATA LIST REFERENCE

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition
      Parking Brake SW Parking brake switch / ON or OFF ON: Parking brake applied
      OFF: Parking brake released
    5. Check that "ON" and "OFF" are properly indicated on the tester display in accordance with the parking brake lever operation.

      OK: 

      Tester display changes in accordance with the parking brake lever operation. 

    NG:  Go to step  9

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH 
    1. Remove the reservoir tank cap and strainer.
    2. Disconnect the brake fluid level warning switch connector.

    4. Measure the resistance.

      HINT:

      There is a float inside the reservoir. Its position can be changed by increasing or decreasing the brake fluid level.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A10-1 - A10-2 Float up (Switch OFF) 1.9 to 2.1 kΩ
      A10-1 - A10-2 Float down (Switch ON) Below 1 Ω

      HINT:

      If there is no problem after the above check is finished, adjust the brake fluid level to the MAX level.

    NG: REPLACE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See DISASSEMBLY )

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER - BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the D2 combination meter connector.
    2. Disconnect the brake fluid level warning switch connector.

    4. Measure the resistance.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      D2-2 - A10-1 Below 1 Ω
      D2-2 - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      A10-2 - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. INSPECT COMBINATION METER 
    1. Inspect the combination meter assembly (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION or ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION ).

      Result 

      RESULT CHART

      Result Proceed to
      OK A
      NG (Hatchback) B
      NG (Sedan) C

    B: REPLACE COMBINATION METER (for Hatchback)  (See REMOVAL )

    C: REPLACE COMBINATION METER (for Sedan)  (See REMOVAL )

    A: REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR (See  REMOVAL   ) 

  9. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the parking brake switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D21-1 - Body ground Parking brake switch ON (Switch pin released) Below 1 Ω
      D21-1 -Body ground Parking brake switch OFF (Switch pin pushed in) 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPLACE PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSEMBLY  (See INSPECTION )

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MAIN BODY ECU - PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect connector 4C of the main body ECU (See TERMINALS OF ECU  ).

    2. Disconnect the parking brake switch connector.
    3. Measure the resistance.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      4C-2 (PKB) - D21-1 Below 1 Ω
      4C-2 (PKB) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU
