LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL (for Hatchback): Removal

HINT:

Use the same procedure for both the RH and LH sides.

1. BOLTS, SCREWS AND NUTS TABLE 

   HINT:

   All bolts, screws and nuts relevant to installing and removing the instrument panel are shown, along with their alphabetic codes, in Fig 1 .

2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 

   Wait for at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent the airbag from working.

3. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH (See  REMOVAL  ) 
4. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END RH (See  REMOVAL  ) 
5. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL (See  REMOVAL  ) 
6. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL  ) 
7. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY CENTER (See  REMOVAL  ) 
8. REMOVE RADIO TUNER OPENING COVER (w/o Radio Receiver) (See  REMOVAL  ) 
9. REMOVE RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL  ) 
10. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL  ) 
11. DISCONNECT AIR MIX DAMPER CONTROL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL  ) 
12. DISCONNECT DEFROSTER DAMPER CONTROL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL  ) 
13. DISCONNECT AIR INLET DAMPER CONTROL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL  ) 
14. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP RH (See  REMOVAL  ) 
15. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH (See  REMOVAL  ) 
16. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH (See  REMOVAL  ) 
17. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH (See  REMOVAL  ) 
18. REMOVE NO. 1 SWITCH HOLE BASE (See  REMOVAL   ) 
19. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL   ) 
20. REMOVE UPPER INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL   ) 
21. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH (See  REMOVAL  ) 
22. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (See  REMOVAL  ) 
23. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY RH (See  REMOVAL  ) 
24. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (See  REMOVAL  ) 
25. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD RH (See  REMOVAL  ) 
26. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD LH (See  REMOVAL  ) 
27. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Manual Transaxle) 
    1. Remove the shift lever knob.

28. REMOVE SHIFTING HOLE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Manual Transaxle) 
    1. Disengage the 6 claws and remove the shifting hole cover.

29. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX REAR COVER 
    1. Disengage the 8 claws and remove the console box rear cover.

30. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX CARPET 
    1. Remove the console box carpet.

31. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY REAR 
    1. Remove bolt < F >.
    2. Disengage the 2 clips and remove the console box rear.

32. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY LOWER 
    1. Disengage the 7 claws and open the instrument panel finish panel lower.

    2. Remove the 2 < A > screws and the instrument panel finish panel lower.

33. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL BOX 
    1. Open the instrument panel box.
    2. Pull the hinge side of the instrument panel box out horizontally with the instrument panel open and disengage the 2 hinges.
    3. Remove the stopper of the instrument panel box from the cutout of the instrument panel lower and remove the instrument panel box.

34. REMOVE NO. 6 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the 4 claws and remove the heater to register duct.

35. DISCONNECT ANTENNA CORD SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the 2 antenna cord clamps.

36. SEPARATE HOOD LOCK CONTROL LEVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the 3 claws and separate the hood lock control lever.

37. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the 2 claws and disconnect the DLC3 connector.
    2. Disconnect the clamps and connectors.
    3. Remove the 5 < D > bolts, 2 < E > bolts, screw < G > and screw < H > and remove the lower instrument panel.

    1. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the light control rheostat.
