Instrument Panel Safety Pad: Removal

  1. PRECAUTION 

    (See PRECAUTION )

  2. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait for 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent airbag deployment (See PRECAUTION ).
  4. REMOVE LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER  (See REMOVAL )
  5. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE STEERING PAD  (See REMOVAL )
  7. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  8. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH  (See REMOVAL )
  9. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH  (See REMOVAL )
  10. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LH (for TMC Made) 
    1. Remove the bolt <A> and the screw.
    2. Disconnect the hood lock control cable assembly.
    3. Disengage the claw and the 9 clips.
    4. Remove the air hose, disconnect the connector, and then remove the lower instrument panel finish panel LH.

  11. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LH (for TMMK Made) 
    1. Remove the bolt <N> and the screw <O> or.
    2. Disconnect the hood lock control cable assembly.
    3. Disengage the claw and the 9 clips.
    4. Remove the air hose, disconnect the connector, and then remove the lower instrument panel finish panel LH.

  12. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (for TMC Made) 
    1. Remove the 2 screws <D>.
    2. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the lower steering column cover.
    3. Disengage the claw and remove the upper steering column cover.

  13. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (for TMMK Made) 
    1. Remove the 2 screws <Q>.
    2. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the lower steering column cover.
    3. Disengage the claw and remove the upper steering column cover.

  14. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  15. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the 3 claws and the 2 clips.
    2. Disconnect the connector and remove the instrument panel sub-assembly.

  16. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL (w/o Smart Key System) 
    1. Disengage the 2 claws and 2 clips, and then remove the lower instrument panel finish panel.

  17. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL (w/ Smart Key System) 
    1. Disengage the 2 claws and 2 clips.
    2. Disconnect the connector and remove the lower instrument panel finish panel.

  18. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL 
    1. Remove the 2 clips.
    2. Disengage the guide and 4 claws, and then remove the instrument cluster finish panel.

  19. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (for TMC Made) 
    1. Remove the 4 screws <E>.
    2. Disconnect each connector and remove the combination meter assembly.

  20. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (for TMMK Made) 
    1. Remove the 4 screws <R>.
    2. Disconnect each connector and remove the combination meter assembly.

  21. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH  (See REMOVAL )
  22. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY RH  (See REMOVAL )
  23. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL NO. 2 UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the 4 claws.
    2. Disengage the 2 guides and remove the No. 2 under cover sub-assembly.

  24. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (for TMC Made) 
    1. Remove the bolt <A>.
    2. Remove the 4 screws.
    3. Disengage the 3 claws and the 3 clips.
    4. Disconnect the connector and remove the lower instrument panel sub-assembly.

  25. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (for TMMK Made) 
    1. Remove the bolt <N>.
    2. Remove the screw <O> or and the 3 screws <O>.
    3. Disengage the 3 claws and the 3 clips.
    4. Disconnect the connector and remove the lower instrument panel sub-assembly.

  26. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Automatic Transaxle) 
    1. Turn the shift lever knob counterclockwise and remove the shift lever knob sub-assembly.

  27. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Manual Transaxle) 
    1. Turn the shift lever knob counterclockwise and remove the shift lever knob sub-assembly.

  28. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL GARNISH 
    1. Disengage the 2 clips and remove the No. 1 instrument cluster finish panel garnish.

  29. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL GARNISH 
    1. Disengage the 2 clips and remove the No. 2 instrument cluster finish panel garnish.

  30. REMOVE FLOOR SHIFT POSITION INDICATOR HOUSING SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Automatic Transaxle) 
    1. Disengage the 6 claws and the 3 clips, and then remove the floor shift position indicator housing sub-assembly.
    2. with Seat Heater System:
      1. Disconnect each connector.

  31. REMOVE UPPER CONSOLE PANEL (for Manual Transaxle) 
    1. Open the lid of the upper console panel.
    2. Apply protective tape to the area shown in the illustration.

    3. Using a moulding remover, disengage the 2 claws and the 5 clips, and then remove the upper console panel as shown in the illustration.

  32. REMOVE UPPER CONSOLE REAR PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Automatic Transaxle) 
    1. Disengage the 3 claws and the 5 clips.
    2. Disconnect the connector and remove the upper console rear panel sub-assembly.

  33. REMOVE UPPER CONSOLE REAR PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Manual Transaxle) 
    1. Disengage the 3 claws and the 5 clips.
    2. Disconnect the connector and remove the upper console rear panel sub-assembly.

  34. REMOVE UPPER CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (for TMC Made) 
    1. Remove the 2 screws <F>.
    2. Disengage the 4 claws.
    3. Disconnect each connector and remove the upper console panel sub-assembly.

  35. REMOVE UPPER CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (for TMMK Made) 
    1. Remove the 2 screws <O>.
    2. Disengage the 4 claws.
    3. Disconnect each connector and remove the upper console panel sub-assembly.

  36. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL NO. 2 REGISTER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Apply protective tape to the areas shown in the illustration.

    2. Using a moulding remover, disengage the 3 clips.

    3. Using a moulding remover, disengage the 4 clips.
    4. Disconnect the connector and remove the instrument panel No. 2 register assembly.

  37. REMOVE RADIO RECEIVER WITH HEATER CONTROL PANEL ASSEMBLY (w/o Navigation System)  (See REMOVAL )
  38. REMOVE NAVIGATION RECEIVER WITH HEATER CONTROL PANEL ASSEMBLY (w/ Navigation System)  (See REMOVAL )
  39. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX POCKET 
    1. Remove the console box pocket.
  40. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX CARPET 
    1. Remove the console box carpet.

    1. Disengage the 6 claws and the 2 clips.
    2. Disengage the 2 guides and remove the instrument panel No. 2 speaker panel sub-assembly.

  54. REMOVE FRONT NO. 2 SPEAKER ASSEMBLY (for RH Side) 

    HINT:

    Use the same procedures for the RH side and the LH side (See REMOVAL ).

  55. REMOVE NO. 1 DEFROSTER NOZZLE GARNISH 
    1. Disengage the 8 clips and the 4 guides.
    2. Disconnect each connector and remove the No. 1 defroster nozzle garnish.

  56. DISCONNECT INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  57. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD ASSEMBLY (for TMC Made) 
    1. Disengage each clamp.
    2. Disconnect each connector.
    3. Remove the bolt <J>.
    4. Remove the 2 passenger airbag bolts <K>.
    5. with Plasmacluster:
      1. Disconnect the connector.

    6. Remove the 2 bolts <C> or <H>.
    7. Remove the 2 nuts or <Z>.
    8. Disengage the 5 claws and remove the instrument panel safety pad assembly.

  58. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD ASSEMBLY (for TMMK Made) 
    1. Disengage each clamp.
    2. Disconnect each connector.
    3. Remove the bolt <Y>.
    4. Remove the 2 passenger airbag bolts <V>.
    5. with Plasmacluster:
      1. Disconnect the connector.

    6. Remove the 2 bolts <N>, <a> or.
    7. Remove the 2 nuts.
    8. Disengage the 5 claws and remove the instrument panel safety pad assembly.

  59. REMOVE NO. 3 INSTRUMENT PANEL STAY 
    1. Disengage the claw and remove the 5 No. 3 instrument panel stays.
