2	Clean engine parts	If bearing damage has occurred, it may be necessary to remove any swarf from the oil duct, the connecting rod bore holes and crankshaft oil ducts (20) and the crankcase.

3	Check connecting rod	After bearing damage has occurred: Replace connecting rods that have been overheated due to bearing damage (blue discoloration). The connecting rod must have any cross scores and notches.
4	Check crankshaft (20)	Check crankshaft (20) after a bearing damage has occurred and repair or replace as required.
