Check and replace rubber boot - AR46.40-P-0400EW

DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
INSPECT Check     
1 Raise vehicle using vehicle lift until the wheels are clear of the ground MODEL 166, 218

with CODE 211 (Direct-Steer system)

2 Check boots (11) NOTES Do not check the boots (11) by pressing in or around the raised bead.
Otherwise damage and leakages may occur.
IMPORTANT Stretch boots (11) by turning the steering to the left and right and while doing so checking for damage (cracks, holes, chafe marks and intrusions); install a new boots (11) if necessary.
 
3 Check water drain valve in steering gear   AR46.20-P-0005EW 
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
4 Remove track rod (10) MODEL 166, 218

5 Unscrew lock nut (10f)    
6 Detach inner clamp (11a) and outer clamp (11b) from boot (11) MODEL 204, 207, 212

INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Observe positioning of inner clamp (11a) and outer clamp (11b).
7 Pull off bellows (11) MODEL 204, 207, 212
with CODE 211 (Direct-Steer system)

INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Observe positioning of boot (11).
INSPECT Check     
8 Check toothed rack for signs of corrosion If the toothed rack is corroded, a new rack-and-pinion steering must be installed.

Remove/install rack-and-pinion steering

9 Check axial joint of inside tie rod (12) for play If the axial joint is worn, the inner tie rod (12) must be replaced with a new one.

Remove/install inner tie rod with axial joint

10 Install in the reverse order    
11 Perform wheel alignment check MODEL 204
