Check and replace rubber boot - AR46.40-P-0400CW

INSPECT Check     
1.1 Remove center engine compartment paneling at bottom Model 172 with gasoline engine

1.2 Remove center engine compartment paneling at bottom MODEL 204.0/2/3., 207 with gasoline engine

1.3 Remove center engine compartment paneling at bottom MODEL 204.9  
AR61.20-P-1105CY
1.4 Remove center bottom section of soundproofing MODEL 172 with diesel engine  
AR94.30-P-5300W
1.5 Remove center bottom section of soundproofing MODEL 204.0/2/3., 207 with diesel engine

2.1 Raise vehicle at front axle MODEL 172  
Lift/jack up vehicle AR00.60-P-1000V
2.2 Raise vehicle at front axle MODEL 204, 207  
3 Stretch the boots (11) by turning the steering onto left and right lock and check for damage (cracks, chafe marks, intrusions) in the process NOTES Never check the boots (11) by pressing in or around the ribs.
This results in damage to the boots (11).
IMPORTANT Perfect sealing of the boots (11) is required for proper operation of the rack-and-pinion steering (23).
 
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
4 Remove track rod (10) MODEL 172
MODEL 204, 207
without CODE 211 (Direct-Steer system)

5 Unscrew lock nut (10f)    
6 Open left and right paneling (1) at the separation point (arrow) MODEL 172 with ENGINE 276  
7 Detach inner clamp (11a) and outer clamp (11b) from boot (11)   AR46.40-P-7200-01EW 
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Ensure that the attachment position for the inner clamp (11a) and outer clamp (11b) is correct.
8 Pull off bellows (11)   AR46.40-P-0400-02CW 
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Slide the boot (11) onto the rack-and-pinion steering (23) and position.
INSPECT Check     
9 Inspect steering rack and axial joint of inner track rod (12) for signs of corrosion and play If the axial joint is worn, replace inner tie rod (12):

Replace inner tie rod with axial joint (12)

without CODE 211 (Direct-Steer system)
The rack-and-pinion steering (23) must be completely replaced if damaged:

10 Install in the reverse order    
11 Perform wheel alignment check MODEL 204
