Removal and Installation: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Disconnect battery. Refer to Battery Disconnect .
  2. Release fuel pressure. Refer to Work Procedure .
  3. Drain engine coolant. Refer to Changing Engine Coolant .
  4. Remove hood assembly. Refer to Removal and Installation .
  5. Remove cowl top extension. Refer to Removal and Installation .
  6. Remove air cleaner and air duct. Refer to Removal and Installation .
  7. Remove radiator. Removal and Installation .
  8. Remove cooling fan coupling. Removal and Installation (Crankshaft driven type) .
  9. Disconnect clamp (B) from air duct (2).

  10. Remove clamp (A) and disconnect EVAP hose (1) from air duct.
  11. Disconnect quick connector (A) with the following procedure.

    1. Remove quick connector cap (1) from quick connector connection.
    2. With the sleeve side of Tool facing quick connector, install Tool onto fuel tube.
    3. Insert Tool into quick connector until sleeve contacts and goes no further. Hold Tool on that position.

      CAUTION: Inserting quick connector release hard will not disconnect quick connector. Hold quick connector release where it contacts and goes no further.

    4. Draw and pull out quick connector straight from fuel tube.
      CAUTION:
      • Pull quick connector holding (A) position as shown in the figure.
      • Do not pull with lateral force applied. O-ring inside quick connector may be damaged.
      • Prepare container and cloth beforehand because fuel will leak out.
      • Avoid fire and sparks.
      • Keep parts away from heat source. Especially, be careful when welding is performed around them.
      • Do not expose parts to battery electrolyte or other acids.
      • Do not bend or twist connection between quick connector and fuel feed hose (with damper) during installation/removal.
      • To keep clean the connecting portion and to avoid damage and foreign materials, cover them completely with plastic bags, etc. or a similar item.

  12. Disconnect VVEL control module harness connector. Refer to Harness Connector .
  13. Disconnect harness connectors (A) for engine harness [LH (B)].

  14. Remove screws (C).

  15. Disconnect harness retainers and reposition engine harness (LH).
  16. Remove fender protector. Refer to Removal and Installation .
  17. Remove the generator harness (C) from the engine assembly using the following procedure:

    1. Disconnect harness clips (A) from the engine.
    2. Remove bolt (B) from generator(1).
    3. Disconnect oil pressure sensor harness connector (A).

    4. Remove "B" terminal nut (2).
    5. Disconnect the harness connector (B) from the generator (1).
  18. Disconnect A/T fluid cooler hose A and A/T fluid cooler hose B from A/T fluid warmer. Refer to Exploded View .
  19. Remove clips securing A/T fluid cooler tube A and A/T fluid cooler tube D to engine assembly. Refer to Exploded View .
  20. Release relay box from mount and set aside.
  21. Remove IPDM E/R lid.
  22. Remove cover (B) from IPDM E/R (1).

  23. Disconnect harness connectors (A) from IPDM E/R and remove engine harness (RH) from IPDM E/R.
  24. Disconnect ECM harness connectors. Refer to Harness Connector .
  25. Remove fusible link cover and remove battery positive cables. Refer to Removal and Installation .
  26. Unbolt power steering oil pump and set aside without disconnecting power steering suction hose or power steering pressure hose. Refer to Removal and Installation - VK56VD .
  27. Disengage power steering reservoir from bracket and set aside. Refer to Component Location - VK56VD .
  28. Remove the high-pressure flexible hose and low-pressure flexible hose from the compressor. Refer to Exploded View .
  29. Remove clamps (A) and remove heater hose [inlet (1)] and heater hose [outlet (2)] from heater core.

  30. Remove the transmission assembly. Refer to Removal and Installation .
  31. Install engine slinger on both front right and front left sides of the engine.

    Slinger bolts:

    : 45.0 N.m (4.6 kg-m, 33 ft-lb)

    (A)

    : Engine front slinger (bank 2)

    (B)

    : Engine front slinger (bank 1)

  32. Lift using a hoist and secure the engine in position.
  33. Remove engine mounting bracket (LH, RH) and engine mounting insulator (LH, RH).
  34. Remove the engine from the vehicle, avoid interference with the vehicle body.
    CAUTION: Before and during lifting, always check that any harnesses are left connected.
