Removal and Installation: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2018 Nissan Titan XD and 2018 Nissan Titan. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
  • When removing the A/T assembly from engine, first remove the crankshaft position sensor (POS) from the A/T assembly.
  • Be careful not to damage sensor edge.
  1. Shift the selector lever to "P" position, and release the parking brake.
  2. Disconnect the battery or batteries. Refer to Battery Disconnect .
  3. Remove floor under cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .
  4. Remove transmission under cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .
  5. Drain ATF through drain plug. Refer to Changing .
  6. Remove bolts (A) from rear diagonal cross member [1 (LH/RH)], then remove front cross member.

  7. Remove bolts and nuts (A) and remove front cross member (1).

  8. Remove transfer assembly from A/T assembly. Refer to Removal and Installation .
  9. Disconnect harness connector (A) from crankshaft position sensor (1).

  10. Remove screw (B) and remove crankshaft position sensor (1) from A/T assembly.

    CAUTION:
    • Do not subject it to impact by dropping or hitting it.
    • Do not disassemble.
    • Do not allow metal filings, etc. to get on the sensor's front edge magnetic area.
    • Do not place in an area affected by magnetism.
  11. Disconnect heated oxygen sensor 2 connectors (bank 1 and bank 2). Refer to Exploded View .
  12. Disconnect the harness connector (A) from the joint connector.

  13. Remove control cable and bracket from A/T assembly. Refer to Removal and Installation .
  14. Disconnect harness connectors from the A/T assembly.
  15. Remove harness and brackets from A/T assembly and transfer assembly.
  16. Remove engine under cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .
  17. Remove bolt (A) and remove rear cover plate (1).

  18. Remove front undercover. Refer to Removal and Installation .
  19. Remove fan shroud (lower). Refer to Exploded View .
  20. Turn crankshaft, and remove the four tightening bolts (A) for drive plate (1) and torque converter.

    CAUTION: When turning the crankshaft, turn it clockwise as viewed from the front of the engine.
  21. Remove A/T fluid cooler tube A and D for XD Models. Refer to Exploded View - XD Models . Remove A/T fluid cooler tube A and C for Non-XD Models. Exploded View - Non-XD Models .
    NOTE: Cap or plug openings to prevent fluid from spilling.
  22. Support A/T assembly (1) with a transmission jack (A).

    CAUTION: When setting the transmission jack, be careful not to allow it to collide against the drain plug and overflow plug.
  23. Remove rear engine mount cross member (1) and engine mount insulator (rear) (2).

  24. Remove bolts from A/T assembly to engine.
  25. Remove A/T assembly from the vehicle.
    CAUTION:
    • Secure torque converter to prevent it from dropping.
    • Secure A/T assembly to a transmission jack.
