Detaching and attaching/replacing timing case cover on front at bottom (B36 engine) (Cooper base)

Special tools required: 

Attention! 

When removing the timing case cover, it is absolutely  necessary to replace the timing case cover.

It is not  permitted to reuse the timing case cover

Attention! 

Engines with surface sealant:

Maximum  processing time for sealing bead is 10 minutes  .

Commissioning of the assembly is not possible until 25 minutes  after the processing time.

Non-observance  can lead to leaks in the assembly.

Preliminary work needed: 

Removal: 

Loosen screws (1).

Unscrew the screws (1).

Unscrew the screws (2).

Remove the timing case cover (3).

Preparation for installation: 

The timing case cover (1) must  be replaced.

Attention! 

Do not use any metal-cutting tools (e.g. abrasive cloth) for cleaning the sealing surfaces.

Clean the sealing residue off the sealing surfaces (1) and (2) using special tool 11 4 471 and 11 4 472.

Installation note: 

Clean the sealing surfaces (1) and (2) using BRAKE CLEANER 3.3 .

Sealing surfaces (1) and (2) must be free  of oil, grease and cleaning agents.

Have special tool 2 469 803 ready.

Apply sealing compound (1) on the special tool 2 469 803 as shown.

Parts: SEALING COMPOUND 2.2 .

Installation: 

Attention! 

Engines with surface sealant:

Maximum  processing time for sealing bead is 10 minutes  .

Apply approx. 5 mm sealing bead (1) as shown.

Assemble special tool 2 357 900 as shown.

Attention! 

Do not use motor oil or lubricant.

Attention! 

Special tool must be resting on timing case cover (1).

Carefully push special tool 2 357 900 through sealing ring into timing case cover and abut.

Remove installation aid (2).

Fit special tool 2 357 900 with timing case cover (1) on crankshaft hub (2).

NOTE: Pay attention to both guide pins (2).

Mount timing case cover (1) on crankcase in arrow direction.

Abut screws.

NOTE: Dust lip (1) must be facing outwards.

Remove special tool 2 357 900.

Check installation position of the dust lip (1).

Abut screws (2) crosswise.

Abut screws (1).

Tighten the screws (2) crosswise.

Tightening torque 11 14 1AZ .

Tighten down screws (1).

Tightening torque: 11 13 2AZ .

Tighten down screws (1).

Tightening torque: 11 61 3AZ .
