Removing and installing/replacing left or right actuator (active pedestrian protection) (Cooper Convertible)

WARNING: Adhere to the following safety instructions so as to avoid a injury hazard by the actuator. Observe and comply with NOTES on airbag safety regulations, NOTES on scrapping vehicles with gas generators, UNLOCKING/LOCKING AIRBAG PLUG CONNECTIONS , NOTES on handling optical fibers, CHECKING AUTOMATIC SAFETY BELT , CHECKLIST FOR 3-POINT AUTOMATIC-REEL BELT ,DEACTIVATING FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAGS WITH KEY SWITCH and PROCEDURE AFTER AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AS RESULT OF AN ACCIDENT
The BATTERY GROUND LEAD. must be clamped off prior to work on the actuator or engine compartment lid!
Do not exert any force on the actuator.
Incorrect handling may result in triggering of the actuator and thereby cause serious injury.

Necessary preliminary work

Disconnect cable from BATTERY GROUND LEAD.
Remove/replace the left windshield PANEL COVER and/or remove/replace the right windshield PANEL COVER .

Removal

Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.

Release bolt (2) and remove actuator (3).

Comply with notes regarding handling active.

Installation

Install actuator (3) and tighten bolt (2).

Tightening torque 41 61 3AZ .

Connect the connector (1).

Required follow-up work:

Connect BATTERY GROUND LEAD.
Install the left windshield PANEL COVER and/or install the right windshield PANEL COVER .
