31 11 001 Replacing front axle support
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE:
Replace self-tapping screws for mounting following components on front axle/engine support.
- Steering box
- Bracket, control arm / retaining bracket, anti-roll bar
- Bumper bracket
- Bracket, ride-height sensor
- Front axle support (if replacing engine supports)
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Lower FRONT AXLE SUPPORT
- Remove both TIE ROD ENDS FROM SWIVEL BEARING
- Remove BOTH CONTROL ARMS FROM SWIVEL BEARING .
- Remove BOTH ANTI-ROLL BAR LINKS FROM ANTI-ROLL BAR .
Installation note:
Use previous front axle support as a template for modifying or replacing small parts.
Modify ANTI-ROLL BAR .
If necessary, modify RIDE-HEIGHT SENSOR .
Modify BOTH CONTROL ARMS .
Modify STEERING GEAR .
Modify BOTH BUMPER BRACKETS .
After Installation note:
- Perform wheel/chassis alignment check. See ALIGNMENT CHECK WITH LOAD UP TO DESIGN POSITION or ALIGNMENT CHECK WITH RIDE-HEIGHT MEASUREMENT WITHOUT LOAD .
- Version with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC): Carry out STEERING ANGLE SENSOR ADJUSTMENT .
NOTE:
Only cars with DSC are fitted with a steering angle sensor (integrated in the steering column switch cluster).
