51 36 070 Removing and installing/replacing left or right rear side window

IMPORTANT: The following notes form the basis for these repair instructions and must be adhered to at all times:
Cover rear side panels with protective covers.
NOTE: Removal is performed with ROLL OUT 2000 . Groove is worked with oscillating knife for replacement.

Necessary preliminary work: 

Window construction: 

Pull out gasket (1) from side window.

IMPORTANT: Tape off body in area of piercing point with fabric adhesive tape (risk of damage).

Push wire starter from ROLL OUT 2000  at line (2) through adhesive bead.

Secure side window against falling out.

Replacement only: 

Fit straight blade with adjustable roller (Sourcing Reference: BMW Parts Department) on tool and set dimension (X).

X = 25 mm

NOTE: Sharpen knife blade before every use on a running machine (even with new knife blades).

Tape off side window and body flange all round with fabric adhesive tape (e.g. Tesa).

Replacement only: 

Secure outside of side window with adhesive tape.

Insert blade carefully between body and side window.

Guide web of blade parallel to side window. Cut through adhesive bead as close to body as possible.

Preparations for the installation of the side window: 

Dual locks to be used (1) 20 x 10 mm (BMW Parts Department sourcing reference).

Remove remnants of dual locks (1) on side window and body area and clean bonding surface.

Bond new dual locks (1) on marked body areas or side window frames.

Dual locks on side window must match these dual locks on body.

Cut A - A B - B C - C
[mm] = Position adhesive bead 1 ±1/along TPE coating contour
[mm] = Width adhesive bead 7 ±1
[mm] = Height adhesive bead 10 ±1
  1. Bead joint
  2. positions of dual locks (marks are located on the sheet metal flange).

If necessary, remove faulty Dual Locks (2), clean bonding surface and stick on new Dual Locks (2).

Side window installation: 

Firstly fit side window (1) with siphon (51 3 010) at bottom with PVC coating (2), then fold in at the top.

Adapt PVC coating (2) of side window (1) to side wall and adjust dimension "A" of side window (1) in relation to body.

A = 0 mm

Engage side window (1) in Dual Locks.

Fix side window (1) in position with yellow plastic adhesive tape (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Department).
