51 44 011 Removing and installing / replacing headliner (with slide / tilt sunroof)

Necessary Preliminary Tasks:

Remove sun visors and counter-supports. Refer to 51 16 080 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING SUN VISOR AND LEFT OR RIGHT COUNTER SUPPORT .
Remove mirror lights. Refer to 63 31 050 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING MIRROR LIGHT .
Remove ceiling light (front). Refer to 63 31 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING COMPLETE CEILING LIGHT (FRONT) .
Remove front roofliner trim. Refer to 51 44 ... REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT ROOFLINER TRIM .
Remove panels for front roof pillar (A-pillar trims). Refer to 51 43 201 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING TRIM FOR FRONT LEFT OR RIGHT ROOF PILLAR .
Remove grab handles. Refer to 51 16 480 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING FRONT GRAB HANDLE .
Remove panels for door pillar (B-pillar trims). Refer to 51 43 148 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING TRIM ON LEFT OR RIGHT DOOR PILLAR (TOP) .
Remove panels for rear roof pillar (C-pillar trims). Refer to 51 43 255 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING TRIM FOR REAR LEFT OR RIGHT ROOF PILLAR (FRONT) .
Remove ceiling light (rear). Refer to 63 31 003 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING COMPLETE CEILING LIGHT (REAR) .
Remove rear roofliner trim. Refer to 65 75 071 REMOVING AND INSTALLING (REPLACING) MODULE FOR PASSENGER COMPARTMENT SENSOR .
Remove both rear head restraints. Refer to 52 24 390 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING LEFT OR RIGHT REAR HEAD RESTRAINT .
Remove cover for 3rd brake light. Refer to 63 25 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING AUXILIARY BRAKE LIGHT .
Remove right front seat. Refer to 52 14 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING RIGHT FRONT SEAT (NORMAL/ELECTRIC) .
Open slide/tilt sunroof (1) completely.

Release screws (2) on mounting frame (3).

Version 1:

Slide floating roofliner (1) behind headliner (3).

Release remaining screws between mounting frame and glass sunroof cover with special tool 54 1 230.

Release screw on mounting for bracket at rear.

Version 2:

Connect BMW diagnosis system and Service function:

Body.
Locking and security functions.
Slide/tilt sunroof.
Select delivery position.

Remaining screws on mounting frame are now accessible and can be released.

Move seat back of front seat to max. rear position.

Press headliner (1) towards front out of sliding clips (2) and remove towards right rear door.

Installation:

Following parts of headliner (7) must not be damaged or missing:

Mounting for console, front.
Metal nuts for cover frame.
Mounting for console, rear.
Mountings for sliding clips.
Sliding clips (release from roof frame).
Retainers (insert in roof frame).

Installation:

Installation sequence:

Carefully attach headliner at rear.
Secure screw on mounting for bracket.
Screw down screws for sunroof frame.
Screw down grab handles at front on left/right.
Screw down sun visors and counter-supports.
Screw down grab handles at rear on left/right.
