51 16 240 Removing and installing/replacing rear storage box

Special tools required: 

• 00 9 317  , see 00 9 317 TRIM PANEL WEDGE .

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Remove side carpet from storage compartment on left and right, see 51 16... Removing and installing/replacing side carpet on storage compartment (center console) .
• Remove center console trim (gear selector switch), see 51 16 160 Removing and installing/replacing center console trim (gear selector switch) .
• Remove AV connecting socket trim, see 61 31 133 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING AV CONNECTION SOCKET .
• Version with rear-cabin monitor:

  Remove trim from rear cabin monitor at front  , see 65 50 150 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING TRIM FOR REAR CABIN MONITOR BASE AT FRONT AND REAR .

• Version with eject box: 

Remove eject box, see 84 11 519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING EJECT BOX .

Version without rear cabin monitor: 

Lever trim (1) with special tool 00 9 317  in direction of arrow out of center console.

Installation: 

Replace faulty retainers (2).

Release left and right screws (1).

Release screws (1) and raise storage box (2).

If necessary, disconnect plug connection for storage box LED.  , see 63 31 178 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LED FOR STORAGE BOX

Remove storage box (2).

Replacement: 

Remove center armrest from storage compartment on left and right, see 51 16 176 Removing and installing/replacing center armrest on storage compartment on left or right .

If necessary, remove storage box LED, see 63 31 178 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LED FOR STORAGE BOX .
