Test G: Coolant Temperature Reads Inaccurately
NOTE:
Water temperature indicator sensor is also known as the coolant temperature sensor. This is NOT the same sensor used by the PCM.
- Check water temperature indicator sender unit. See WATER TEMPERATURE INDICATOR SENDER UNIT under COMPONENT TESTS. Is the water temperature indicator sender unit okay? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace the water temperature indicator sender unit.
- Check coolant temperature gauge. See COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE under COMPONENT TESTS. Is the coolant temperature gauge okay? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace coolant temperature gauge.
- Check wire between water temperature indicator sender unit and instrument cluster. Turn key OFF. Disconnect the instrument cluster connector C270. Disconnect the water temperature sender unit connector. Measure the resistance of the Blue/White wire between the instrument cluster connector C270 and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? If yes, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PRINTED CIRCUIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If no, service Blue/White wire.
