Test Q: Low Oil Level Indicator Never/Always On
- Check low oil level indicator miniature bulb. Turn key OFF. Remove the low oil level indicator miniature bulb. Check the continuity between the terminals of the low oil level indicator miniature bulb. Does continuity exist? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace the low oil level indicator miniature bulb.
- Check engine oil level switch. Turn key OFF. Verify that the engine oil level is above the MIN line on the oil level dipstick. Disconnect the engine oil level switch connector located on the oil pan. Measure the resistance between the terminal on the engine oil level switch and ground. Drain the oil into a clean drain pan. Measure the resistance between the terminal on the engine oil level switch and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the oil drained, and greater than 10,000 ohms with the engine oil level above the MIN line? If yes, replace the engine oil level switch. If no, go to next step.
- Check wire between instrument cluster and low oil level indicator. Turn key OFF. Remove the instrument cluster. Disconnect the instrument cluster connector C268. Disconnect the engine oil level module connector located behind the glove compartment. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . Measure the resistance of the Black/Yellow wire between the instrument cluster connector C268 and the engine oil level module connector. Measure the resistance of the Black/Yellow wire between the instrument cluster connector C268 and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the instrument cluster and the engine oil level module, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the instrument cluster and ground? If yes, go to next step. If no, service Black/Yellow wire.
- Check oil level indicator circuit. Turn key OFF. Reconnect the instrument cluster connectors. Disconnect the engine oil level module connector. Ground the Black/Yellow wire at the engine oil level module. See WIRING DIAGRAMS for connector identification. Turn key ON. Does the low oil level indicator illuminate? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace the instrument cluster printed circuit. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PRINTED CIRCUIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Check power supply to engine oil level module. Turn key OFF. Disconnect the engine oil level module connector. Turn key ON. Measure the voltage on the Gray/Blue wire at the engine oil level module connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, service the Gray/Blue wire between the interior fuse junction panel and the engine oil level module.
- Check engine oil level module ground. Turn key OFF. Disconnect the engine oil level module connector. Measure the resistance of the Black wire between the engine oil level module connector and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, service Black wire.
- Check vehicle start signal to engine oil level module. Turn key OFF. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. Disconnect the engine oil level module connector. Turn key to the START position. Measure the resistance of the Light Green/Black wire between the engine oil level module connector and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Is the resistance less than 5 ohms while the key is in the START position? If yes, go to next step. If no, check continuity of Light Green/Black wire between engine oil level module and ignition switch.
- Check wire between engine oil level module and engine oil level switch. Turn key OFF. Disconnect the engine oil level module connector. Disconnect the engine oil level switch connector. Measure the resistance of the Black/Red wire between the engine oil level module connector and the engine oil level switch connector. Measure the resistance of the Black/Red wire between the engine oil level module connector and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the engine oil level module and the engine oil level switch, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the engine oil level module and ground? If yes, replace engine oil level module. If no, service Black/Red wire.
