Remove/Install Torque Strut At Front Axle - AR33.15-P-0160S

Model 223 

except code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version)

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove front and center engine compartment linings.   AR61.20-P-1105S
2 remove corresponding front wheel.   AR40.10-P-1102A
3 Remove tie rod joint (1) from steering knuckle (2). Model 223
with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)
except code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version)
AR46.40-P-0211S
4 Remove tension strut (4) from steering knuckle. NOTES
The ball head must be counterheld and an impact wrench/driver must not be used.
Otherwise the ball head or steering knuckle may be damaged
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, strut rod to steering knuckle

    SPECIAL TOOL Socket wrench Fig 2
5 Remove nut from screw (3) and pull out screw (3). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, strut rod to front axle carrier *BA33.20-P-1004-01T 
6 Remove tension strut (4) from front axle carrier.    
7 Remove pilot bushing (5) from steering knuckle (2). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : The pilot bushing (5) must be replaced.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : The pilot bushing (5) must be positioned onto the tension strut (4)

INSPECT Check     
8 Check elastomer bearing in tension strut (4) for condition, damage and variant. IMPORTANT The variants of the elastomer bearings are shown in the reference document.
If there is a problem on the elastomer bearing without caster correction,

replace tension strut (4).
If there is a problem on the elastomer bearing for caster correction,

replace elastomer bearing of tension strut (4).

9 Check sealing bellows and ball head of tension strut (4) for damage. If there is a problem,

replace tension strut (4).
If an elastomer bearing with caster correction was installed,

install an elastomer bearing for caster correction into the new tension strut (4).

10 Install in the reverse order.    
MEASURING Measure     
11 Perform chassis alignment.   AR40.20-P-0200S
