Parameterizable special module (PSM), function
The parameterizable special module (PSM) control unit (N26/15) forms the interface between the vehicle and the body manufacturer electronics. Information is exchanged here over 3 CAN connections:
Interior CAN (CAN B), body manufacturer CAN (CAN ABH) and peripheral device CAN (CAN AE).
The vehicle status can be read and vehicle functions (e.g. engine speed) controlled by the body manufacturer electronics over the PSM control unit and over CAN.
For this purpose, there are digital and analog inputs and outputs:
- Plug 1 = 0 multifunction inputs, 8 multifunction outputs
- Plug 2 = 10 multifunction inputs, 12 multifunction outputs
The discrete multifunction outputs 01 to 05, 08 to 14 and 16 to 20 can also be used as inputs. The configuration can be adjusted by means of diagnosis.
The body manufacturer CAN is available for complex bodies. A multitude of vehicle signals are transmitted on this. In addition, there are some "free messages" which can be assigned with any desired contents.
The PSM control unit can therefore forward information, which it receives as CAN messages, to outputs or the body manufacturer CAN.
The peripheral device CAN is available for adapters that meet the CiA447-3 standard. Model series 907 is equipped with separate plug contacts for the peripheral device CAN, i.e. a separate, third CAN for the adapters.
In addition to the interface modules listed above, additional modules are available to the user for implementing the desired vehicle function:
- Programmable logic controller (PLC)
- Arithmetic units
- Special functions
- Signals in multifunction display
- Basic settings
Through parameterization of the individual modules, the functionality of the PSM control unit is established and adapted to the corresponding body. For special equipment codes (SA codes) delivered ex factory, parameterization of the PSM control unit can be performed via the menu item "SCN coding" (online). Parameterization via the expert coding is required for all other adjustments.
The SA codes available from the plant are:
- Code CB2 (Air suspension comfort suspension)
- Code JV5 (Preinstallation for crash data recorder)
- Code M53 (Constant RPM control)
- Code MT4 (Variable electronic RPM governor)
- Code MW1 (Engine run-on control (MWS))
- Code PB2 (VMC retarder master code)
