| 2 | Remove nuts from ground line (4), tailgate ground point (W8), left tailgate ground point (W8/1) and right tailgate ground point (W8/2). | ||

| 3 | Disconnect electrical connectors of left electrical wiring harness (2) and right electrical wiring harness (3). | ||
| 4 | Expose left electrical wiring harness (2) and right electrical wiring harness (3) and remove them from the tailgate (1). | Do not overtension, crush or kink the left electrical wiring harness links (2) or the right electrical wiring harness (3). Otherwise, the left electrical wiring harness (2) or the right electrical wiring harness (3) may be damaged. |

| 5 | Pull both grommets (5) out of tailgate (1). | Carefully pull out grommets (5). Otherwise, the left electrical wiring harness (2) or the right electrical wiring harness (3) may be damaged. |

| 6 | Carefully guide left electrical wiring harness (2 and right electrical wiring harness (3) out of tailgate (1). | Do not overtension, crush or kink the left electrical wiring harness links (2) or the right electrical wiring harness (3). Otherwise, the left electrical wiring harness (2), the right electrical wiring harness (3) or the electrical connectors may be damaged. |

Note the routing and padding of the left electrical wiring harness (2) and of the right electrical wiring harness (3). Otherwise, noises may arise during driving. |

| 7 | Mechanically lock rotary tumbler at tailgate lock using a suitable screwdriver. | ||
| 8 | Remove drive unit of trunk lid/tailgate control on the left/right (M51/5, M51/3) of the tailgate (1). |

| 9 | Unscrew screws (6), remove tailgate (1) and set down on suitable base. | ||
