DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury to eyes and skin caused by contact with fuel. No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Pour fuels into suitable and appropriately marked containers only.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Put transmission into neutral position.    
2 Secure vehicle against rolling away and release parking brake.    
3 Lift vehicle and secure on vehicle lift.   AR00.60-P-1006A
4 Remove upper engine cover.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Do not install upper engine cover until after the leak test. AP01.10-P-2405-01K
5 Remove battery carrier.   AR54.10-P-0028MFA
6 Release, disconnect purge line (2) and seal exposed openings with suitable stop plugs. NOTES Do not crush, kink or subject purge line (2) to tension.
This will result in damage to purge line (2) and impair its function.

7 Disconnect engine wiring harness for removal of the engine. NOTES o not crush or kink or subject electric lines to tension.
This will result in damage to electric lines and impair their function.

8 Release and disconnect electrical connectors (1) at ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10). NOTES Do not crush or kink or subject electric lines to tension.
This will result in damage to electric lines and impair their function.
 
9 Remove air filter housing.   AR09.10-P-1150MFG
10 Remove the coolant expansion reservoir.   AR20.30-P-4949MFG
11 Disconnect inerting system line in engine compartment and seal openings with suitable stop plugs. Engine 139 in model 118, 177, 247 with transmission 724.1 with code 2U8 (Alternative refrigerant) AR86.10-P-0119MFA

12 Disconnect fuel line (4) on engine-side and seal openings with suitable stop plugs. NOTES Do not crush, kink or subject fuel line (4) to tension.
This will result in damage to fuel line (4) and impair its function.
IMPORTANT Replace clamp.

13 Disconnect vacuum line (5) on engine-side and seal openings with suitable stop plugs. NOTES Do not crush, kink or subject vacuum line (5) to tension.
This will result in damage to vacuum line (5) and impair its function.

14 Remove front module. INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only install lower engine compartment lining after leak test.
IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.

15 Remove refrigerant line (3) from separating point and seal exposed openings with suitable stop plugs.    
REFER TO CAPACITIES & SPECIFICATIONS Compressor oils (specification 362.1) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace seals. Wet seals with compressor oil. BB00.40-P-0362-01A
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, refrigerant line connecting point *BA83.30-P-1002-01T

16 Remove exhaust system downstream of catalytic converter.   AR49.10-P-7286MFG
17 Remove propeller shaft. Engine 139 in model 118, 177, 247 with transmission 724.1 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) AR41.10-P-0050MFA
18 Remove front axle shafts.   AR33.30-P-0620MFA
19 Remove lower engine stabilizer mount.   AR22.10-P-1155MFG
20 Attach engine support fixture and support engine. NOTES Do not lift engine with transmission too powerfully.
Engine suspension will otherwise be damaged.

21 Remove right engine mount.   AR22.10-P-1102MFG
22 Remove transmission suspension mount.   AR27.10-P-0002MFA
23 Disconnect coolant lines (6) from transmission and seal openings with suitable stop plugs.   AR20.20-P-7441-01RQ
    NOTES Do not crush, kink or subject coolant lines (6) to tension.
This will result in damage to coolant lines (6) and impair their function.

24 Remove screw (7). TORQUE SPECIFICATION M6x1 *BA00.10-P-1002-04A 
25 Disconnect coolant line (8) at transmission, seal openings with suitable stop plugs and position outside the working area.   AR20.20-P-7441-01RQ
    NOTES Do not crush, kink or subject coolant line (8) to tension.
This will result in damage to coolant line (8) and impair its function.

26 Release and disconnect electrical connector (9).    
27 Remove electrical wiring harness (10) from transmission and position outside the working area. NOTES Do not crush or kink or subject electric lines to tension.
This will result in damage to electric lines and impair their function.

28 Remove wiring harness at starter and position outside the working area.   AR15.30-P-7100-03MFG
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, connection for terminal designation 30 *BA15.30-P-1001-01J 
29 Remove wiring harness for alternator from engine.   AR15.18-P-0016MFG
30 Move out engine with the transmission toward the front out of the vehicle.    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 25 62 00 Lift table   WS01.00-P-0264A
    NOTES Do lines and hoses may be damaged when removing/inserting engine with transmission. Otherwise leaks and engine damage can occur.
IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.

31 Install in the reverse order.    
32 Perform commissioning of transmission. When replacing or repairing the transmission.

33 Fill transmission with oil. When replacing or repairing the transmission.
IMPORTANT New transmission is delivered empty.

34 Check oil level of dual-clutch transmission, correct if necessary.   AR27.00-P-0104MFA
35 Check engine oil level, correct if necessary. Engine 139 in model 118, 177, 247 with transmission 724.1  
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP18.00-P-1812AKI
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
36 Perform engine test run; in this connection, check engine and dual-clutch transmission for proper operation and leak tightness.    
37 Install lower engine compartment lining.   AR61.20-P-1105MFR
38 Install upper engine cover.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP01.10-P-2405-01K
