	Remove
1	Remove propeller shaft from front axle differential (1).		AR41.10-P-0070MSA
2	Remove drain screw and drain hypoid gear oil from front axle differential (1) and collect with a suitable container.	Model 257 with engine 256 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)

3	Remove rack-and-pinion steering.		AR46.20-P-0600FR
4	Remove right front axle shaft.		AR33.30-P-0620MSA
5	Remove intermediate shaft.		AR33.30-P-0625MSA
6	Remove starter-alternator control unit (N129).	Model 257 with engine 256 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)

7	Remove screws (2, 3a, 3b, 3c) and place front axle differential (1) onto front axle.
8	Remove support (4).
9	Remove front axle differential (1) downwards.
10	Check that pilot bushing in oil pan is correctly seated.	If problems exist, ↓ Replace pilot bushing.
11	Remove radial shaft sealing rings (5l, 5r).	Do not damage seat of radial shaft sealing rings (5l, 5r). Otherwise the front axle differential (1) will leak. Connect internal extractor and slide hammer puller to threaded rod of extraction tool.

12	Check seat of radial shaft sealing rings (5l, 5r) for damage and galling.	If problems exist, ↓ replace front axle differential (1).
	Install
13	Install radial shaft sealing rings (5l, 5r) using drift.	Replace radial shaft sealing ring (5l, 5r).
		With VAG 160 Drift set	Fig 4

14	Coat sealing lips of radial shaft sealing rings (5l, 5r) with transmission oil.
	Universal hypoid gear oils (specification 235.7	Replace radial shaft sealing rings (5l, 5r).	BB00.40-P-0235-07A
15	Position front axle differential (1) on front axle.
16	Install support (4).	Collar bolt, support to oil pan	*BA33.30-P-1011-03G
17	Attach front axle differential (1) to support (4).		AR33.30-P-0525-06AVG
		Collar bolt, front axle differential to support/oil pan	*BA33.30-P-1006-03G
		Collar bolt, front axle gear to engine support	*BA33.30-P-1007-03G
18	Screw drain screw into front axle differential (1) and tighten.	With VAG 175 Replace seal. Replace drain screw.

19.1	Fill front axle transmission (1) with hypoid gear oil through the front axle shaft opening.	Model 257 with engine 256 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) With VAG 175
