Remove/Install Air Suspension Compressor - AR32.22-P-2001FRX

Model 290 

with code 489 (AIR BODY CONTROL)

CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Remove lower underfloor paneling.   AR61.30-P-1001FR
2 Guide heat shield (3) out of stud bolts and push to one side.    
3 Disconnect electrical connections (4).    
4 Separate cable ties (5) and place electric lines to one side.    
5 Remove pressure line connection (6) from AIR BODY CONTROL compressor (A9/1) and seal openings using suitable stop plugs. SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 4
6 Unclip pressure line (14) from holder (15).    
7 Unscrew nuts (7) and remove AIR BODY CONTROL compressor (A9/1) in downward direction.    
8 Unclip air intake hose (11) at holder (16). When replacing AIR BODY CONTROL compressor (A9/1).  
9 Remove air intake hose (11) from AIR BODY CONTROL compressor (A9/1). When replacing AIR BODY CONTROL compressor (A9/1).  
10 Remove holders (15, 16) from AIR BODY CONTROL compressor (A9/1). When replacing AIR BODY CONTROL compressor (A9/1).  
INSPECT Check     
11 Check holder (10) and threaded rods (8) for damage. In the event of a problem,

Replace holder (10) with threaded rods (8).

12 Check elastomer bearings (12) for damage and wear. In the event of a problem,

replace elastomer bearings (12).
AR32.22-P-2011FRX 
INSTALLING Install     
13 Attach holders (15, 16) to AIR BODY CONTROL compressor (A9/1). When replacing AIR BODY CONTROL compressor (A9/1).  
14 Attach air intake hose (11) to AIR BODY CONTROL compressor (A9/1). When replacing AIR BODY CONTROL compressor (A9/1).  
15 Clip air intake hose (11) into holder (16). When replacing AIR BODY CONTROL compressor (A9/1).  
16 Place washers (9) onto elastomer bearings (12).    
17 Fit compression springs (17) onto protective sleeves (13).    
18 Position protective sleeves (13) with compression springs (17) into elastomer bearings (12).    
19 Position AIR BODY CONTROL compressor (A9/1) and tighten nuts (7). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, compressor mounting to compressor unit bracket *BA32.22-P-1001-03J 
20 Clip pressure line (14) into holder (15).    
21 Remove all stop plugs.    
22 Attach pressure line connection (6) to AIR BODY CONTROL compressor (A9/1).    
  Note on calculation of tightening torque when using insertion or socket tools with various effective lengths   AH00.00-P-0015-01CW
    NOTES
The thread on pressure line connection (6) must not be damaged.
Otherwise, leaks will occur.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Pressure line to compressor/valve unit (P) *BA32.22-P-1004-03J 
    SPECIAL TOOL Box wrench bit Fig 3
    If thread is damaged,

Repair pressure line connection (6).
 
      AR32.22-P-2001-01FR 
    SPECIAL TOOL Knife Fig 2
23 Attach new cable ties (5).    
24 Contact electrical connectors (4).    
25 Replace AIR BODY CONTROL relay. When replacing AIR BODY CONTROL compressor (A9/1).  
REFER TO BASIC KNOWLEDGE Assignment of engine fuse and relay module   GF54.15-P-1256-32FR
INSPECT Check     
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

26 Perform an engine test run and check air suspension for proper operation.    
27 Check compressed-air connection at AIR BODY CONTROL compressor (A9/1) for leak tightness.   AR32.22-P-8101FRX 
INSTALLING Install     
28 Position heat shield (3) on stud bolts.    
29 Install rear underfloor paneling.   AR61.30-P-1001FR
