Remove/Install Camshaft Housing With Camshafts - AR05.20-P-6997MSA

Engine 256.9 in model 213, 238, 257, 290 

MODIFICATION NOTES

13.05.2020 Check camshaft housing (7) with camshafts for damage. Operation step 18.

WARNING Risk of injury  to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing coolant. Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the overpressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove rear cover from cylinder head.   AR01.30-P-5702MSA
2 Move camshafts to basic position.   AR05.20-P-6010MSA 
3 Mark off the camshaft positioners with locking pins. SPECIAL TOOL Assembly tool Fig 2
4 Remove ignition coils.   AR15.12-P-2003MSA
5 Remove rail with fuel injectors of cylinders 1, 2, 3.   AR07.03-P-1053MSA
6 Remove rail with fuel injectors of cylinders 4, 5, 6.   AR07.03-P-1054MSA
7 Remove full load bleed line.   AR01.20-P-0020MSA
8 Remove high-pressure line.   AR07.03-P-1003MSA
9 Remove electrical wiring harness from cylinder cover.    
10 Remove screws (20) and place cable duct (19) to one side. TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, engine wiring harness cable duct to camshaft housing *BA15.18-P-1002-01MRT 
11 Release and disconnect electrical connectors at potential distributor (18).    
12 Remove screw (17) and remove potential distributor (18). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, engine wiring harness potential distributor to camshaft housing *BA15.18-P-1003-01MRT 
13 Remove ground line from camshaft housing (7). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, engine wiring harness ground line to camshaft housing *BA15.18-P-1001-01MRT 
14 Remove the camshaft's fixing device. SPECIAL TOOL Locating tool Fig 1
15 Unscrew screws (30) in reverse sequence to the tightening sequence. NOTES
Screws (D) must not be loosened.
Otherwise the camshafts will be displaced.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace screws (30).

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, camshaft housing to cylinder head *BA05.20-P-1001-04MRT 
16 Install locating tool of the camshafts. SPECIAL TOOL Locating tool Fig 1
17 Remove the camshaft housing (7).    
  Notes on the application of sealing compound of the camshaft case INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Ensure that the locking bolts of the camshaft housing (7) are seated correctly in the cylinder head. AH05.20-P-6995-02BK 
    Sealant, Loctite 5970, 50 ml *BR00.45-Z-1013-01A 
INSPECT Check     
18 Check camshaft housing (7) with camshafts for damage.    
  General information on checking camshafts and bearing points of camshafts If there is a problem:

Replace camshaft housing (7) with camshafts.
AH05.20-P-1000-09SZ 
19 Remove cylinder head cover from camshaft housing (7). When replacing the camshaft housing (7).  
      AR01.20-P-5019MSA
CLEAN Clean     
20 Clean sealing surfaces on cylinder head and camshaft housing (7). NOTES
Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper.
Sealing surfaces will otherwise be damaged.
 
    Loctite 7200 *BR00.45-Z-1038-04A 
    Loctite 7063 (400 ml) cleaning spray *BR00.45-Z-1046-04A 
21 Install in the reverse order.    
INSPECT Check     
22 Check engine oil level and correct.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Engine 256.9 in model 213, 238, 290 AP18.00-P-1812MKI
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Engine 256.9 in model 257 AP18.00-P-1812BKI
