IMPORTANTInformation on touchpad

The touchpad is installed in two variants.

Variant 1 (with code 448 (Touchpad)): The touchpad is installed together with the Audio/COMAND control panel. The touchpad is connected only to the telematics CAN.

Variant 2 (with code 446 (Touchpad only)): The touchpad is installed instead of the Audio/COMAND control panel. In this case, the lower control panel is connected to the touchpad via the UBF-LIN. The touchpad is also connected to the telematics CAN.

Function requirements for video operation in general

Video mode, general

The head unit supports the playback of videos (HTML5) streamed online. The video image is shown on the Audio/COMAND display. The head unit is responsible for the required processing of the video data for displaying the images on the Audio/COMAND display. If video data is forwarded to the Rear Seat Entertainment System controller unit (with code 864 (Rear Seat Entertainment System)) via MOST, then the Rear Seat Entertainment System controller unit processes the video data to be shown on the left rear passenger compartment display or right rear passenger compartment display.

IMPORTANT The Internet browser is not able to play back flash videos.

The Rear Seat Entertainment System controller unit Blu-ray drive (with code 864 (Rear Seat Entertainment System)) supports playback of video DVDs. The video image is shown on the left rear display or right rear display, depending on requirements and availability.

IMPORTANT Model 222

as of model year 2018

with code 864 (Rear compartment entertainment package)

Videos and compressed video data may also be played back via the rear HDMI connection (A90/6x3) and the USB connections (A90/6x1, A90/6x2) of the rear multimedia connection unit.

The functional scope is equipment dependent, therefore video operation is divided up into the following subfunctions:

Function sequence for video operation of head unit

The volume can be regulated via the volume control button in the lower control panel (with code 446 (Touchpad only)) or at the audio/COMAND control panel (with code 448 (Touchpad)).

The video function can be operated using the:

The Audio/COMAND control panel (with code 448 (Touchpad)) sends the control signals to the head unit via the telematics CAN.

The control signals of the head unit multifunction steering wheel button group are forwarded via the following route:

Steering wheel electronics →

Steering wheel CAN →

Steering column tube module control unit →

Chassis FlexRay →

Electronic ignition lock control unit →

User interface CAN →

Instrument cluster →

User interface CAN →

Head unit

The voice commands for the voice control system are converted into electric signals by the driver hands-free system microphone and forwarded to the head unit.

The touchpad (with code 448 (Touchpad)) or code 446 (Touchpad only)) transmits the respective control signals via the telematics CAN to the head unit.

The playback is only available on the audio/COMAND display when the vehicle is stationary. The head unit reads the vehicle speed signal from the user interface CAN. When the vehicle is moving, only acoustic playback remains active and - for safety reasons - a warning is shown on the Audio/COMAND display.

Audio is output depending on the equipment variant:

The video function can be operated using the remote control.

The Kleer® radio interface in the left or right rear display receives the Kleer® remote control signals from the remote control and forwards these signals as follows:

Telematics CAN →

Head unit →

MOST →

Rear entertainment controller unit

The picture signals are transmitted in the rear entertainment controller unit to the controller unit via a separate video line by the Blu-ray drive. The Rear Seat Entertainment system controller unit transmits the picture signal via an HSVL line to the left rear display or the right rear display.

The audio signals are transmitted by the Rear Seat Entertainment system controller via the integrated Kleer® radio interfaces to the respective radio frequency headphones in the form of Kleer® radio signals. The Rear Seat Entertainment system controller unit also transmits the audio signals via the HSVL line to the left rear display or the right rear display. The left rear display or the right rear display prepares the audio signals for cabled headphones via an integrated connection.
