Remove/Install Balance Shaft Housing - AR03.20-P-1105MRI

CAUTION Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of engine oil. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing engine oil Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not fill engine oil into beverage containers.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Remove right charge air line, remove charge air cooler with connected lines, and fasten so that they are free of tension.   AR09.41-P-6817MRI
2 Rotate the engine at crankshaft center bolt in direction of engine rotation to ignition TDC on 1st cylinder. IMPORTANT The TDC marking of the belt pulley must be aligned with the positioning edge on the timing case cover.  
3 Remove oil pan. Engine 264 in model 253

4 Remove screws (2) and remove oil suction pipe (3).    
5 Unscrew screws (6) and remove the oil deflector (7).    
6 Unscrew screws (4) and remove cover (5).    
7 Remove screws (1a to 1d) and remove the balance shaft housing (1). IMPORTANT Replace screws (1a to 1d).  
INSPECT Check     
8 Check the O-rings of the new screws (1a, 1b) for signs of damage and that they are sitting correctly in the groove. NOTES
Do not use new screws (1a, 1b) with damaged O-rings.
Engine damage can occur otherwise.
If damage is present,
↓
Replace new screws (1a, 1b).
 
9 Check the coating of the balance shaft housing (1) for damage. If damage is present,
↓
replace the balance shaft housing (1).
 
INSTALLING Install     
10 Position the balance shaft housing (1) in the assembly position on the crankcase and tighten the new screws (1c, 1d) slightly by hand. NOTES
Do not damage the coating on the balance shaft housing (1).
Engine damage can occur otherwise.
 
11 Tighten new screws (1a, 1b) slightly by hand. NOTES
Do not push the O-rings of the new screws (1a, 1b) out of the groove or damage them. Engine damage can occur otherwise.
 
12 Tighten the new screws (1a to 1d) in the specified tightening sequence. IMPORTANT Tightening sequence: 1st screw (1d), 2nd screw (1b), 3rd screw (1c) and 4th screw (1a).
IMPORTANT Observe tightening sequence at each tightening stage.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, balance shaft housing to crankcase

13 Install cover (5) and tighten screws (4). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, cover to balance shaft housing *BA03.20-P-1003-04A 
14 Position the oil deflector (7) and tighten the screws (6). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, oil deflector to crankcase *BA18.10-P-1005-01W 
15 Install the oil suction pipe (3) and tighten the screws (2).    
REFER TO CAPACITIES & SPECIFICATIONS Specified engine oils (service) - Overview IMPORTANT Observe alignment of the oil suction pipe (3).
IMPORTANT Wet sealing ring of the oil suction pipe (3) with engine oil.

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, oil suction pipe to pipe flange/bracket If the sealing ring on the oil suction pipe (3) is damaged,
↓
Replace oil suction pipe (3).

17 Attach charge air cooler and install right charge air line.   AR09.41-P-6817MRI
