Check Hydraulic Valve Clearance Compensating Elements - AR05.00-P-2010MRA

WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear buttoned-up and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of engine oil. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing engine oil Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not fill engine oil into beverage containers.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install

REFER TO MAINTENANCE
Check and correct oil level   AP18.00-P-1811MP
2 Warm up engine to normal operating temperature    
3 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (min. 2 m)    
4 Remove cylinder head cover INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Only install upper engine cover after the leak test. AR01.20-P-5014MRA
5 Turn engine at center bolt on crankshaft until the cams of the camshaft on the valve clearance compensating element to be checked point upwards NOTES
Do not turn engine against direction of engine rotation.
Otherwise engine damage can occur.
SPECIAL TOOL Socket wrench bit
If the roller-type cam follower (1) does not touch the cam.

    Replace valve clearance compensating element. AR05.00-P-2011MRA 
INSPECT Check     
6 Compress valve clearance compensating element; to do this depress the roller-type cam follower (1) using a suitable drift (01) NOTES
Do not use a steel tool.
The surface will be damaged otherwise.
IMPORTANT The valve clearance compensating element should not be pressed together with the normal force of the hand but only very slowly when applying a strong pressure. If the valve clearance compensating element drops too strongly.

    Replace valve clearance compensating element.
If a number of valve clearance compensating elements are defective.
↓
AR05.00-P-2011MRA 
    Check compress oil supply of cylinder head. AR18.00-P-1250MRA
7 Install in the reverse order    
8 Perform an engine test run and check engine for proper operation and leaktightness    
9 Install upper engine cover
