Remove/Install Engine With Transmission - AR01.10-P-2401MRI

DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury to eyes and skin caused by contact with fuel. No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Pour fuels into suitable and appropriately marked containers only.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Secure vehicle against rolling away, shift transmission to neutral position, and release parking brake.    
2 Relieve fuel pressure using diagnostic system.    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS   IMPORTANT To do so, select following menu items: ME-SFI [ME] control unit →
Actuation →
Actuate the fuel pump.

3 Secure vehicle on vehicle lift.   AR00.60-P-1006A
4 Disconnect the ground line for the on-board electrical system battery (G1).   AR54.10-P-0003LW
5 Discharge air conditioning system. INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Evacuate air conditioning system, refill, and check for leaks. AR83.30-P-1760LW
6 Remove engine cover. INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Do not install engine cover until after the leak test. AR01.10-P-2405MRI 
7 Drain engine cooling system coolant. INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only install engine compartment lining after leak test. AR20.00-P-1142MRI
8 Drain coolant of low-temperature circuit.   AR09.41-P-6834MRI
9 Remove drain screw, drain engine oil and catch in suitable container.

12 Remove rear engine mount. IMPORTANT Place transmission on the rear engine carrier.
IMPORTANT The rear engine support remains on the vehicle.

13 Remove fuel hose (12), collect escaping fuel in a suitable container, and seal openings with suitable stop plugs. INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Install new fuel hose (12).

19 Remove vacuum line (1) from vacuum pump and seal openings with suitable stop plugs. SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 3
20 Remove coolant hose (2) from firewall and seal openings with suitable stop plugs.   AR20.20-P-7441-01RQ

29 Hook load tilter to engine crane and all available engine lifting lugs and lift the engine slightly.

Do not subject front engine mounts to tension when lifting.
Otherwise, damage to the front engine mounts will occur.

31 Lift out the engine together with the transmission.

When lifting out/in engine, do not damage any lines and hoses.
Leaks can occur otherwise.
IMPORTANT Helper required.

32 Install in the reverse order.

33 Check engine oil level and correct if necessary.

34 Connect vehicle diagnosis system, read out fault memory and clear if necessary.

WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
WARNING Risk of burn injuries  , suffocation and poisoning when working on the exhaust system and the components connected to it. Risk of suffocation and risk of poisoning caused by inhalation of gaseous and solid components of the exhaust. Risk of poisoning  caused by skin contact with solid components of the exhaust. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. Use the extraction system. Move people out of the danger zone. AS49.00-Z-0001-01A
35 Perform engine test run. While doing so, check engine for proper operation and leak tightness.
