CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A
  Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A

REMOVING Remove     
1 Secure vehicle against rolling away and then raise Model 463 (except 463.270/271) as of model year 2010 up to model year 2013 AR00.60-P-1000G
2 Drain oil filling of differential into a suitable container If rear axle is to be disassembled.  
3 Detach propeller shaft from differential and secure to frame    
4 Detach damper (7) from rear axle    
5.1 Loosen screw/bolt on rear axle (1) of transverse control arm (3) on frame Model 460 Model 461 (except 461. 302/304/305/331/332/333/334/340/342/343/344/392) Model 463 (except 463.202/222/236/237/243/244/245/246/247/248/249/250/254/270/271/303/306/309/322/323/332/333/336/340/341/346) up to model year 2013  
5.2 Unscrew screw/bolt at rear axle (1) of transverse control arm (3) and remove transverse control arm (3) in downward direction Model 463.202/222/236/237/243/244/245/246/247/248/249/250/254/303/306/309/322/323/332/333/336/340/341/346 up to model year 2013  
6 Loosen screw/bolt at frame (2) of transverse control arm (3) on axle Model 460 Model 461 (except 461. 302/304/305/331/332/333/334/340/342/343/344/392)

7 Unscrew brake lines IMPORTANT For model 463.202/222/236/237/243/244/245/246/247/248/249/250/254/303/306/309/322/323/332/333/336/340/341/346 there are three lines on the retaining plate (9).  
8 Seal exposed connections using stop plugs NOTES Seal connections immediately with plugs. The brake fluid reservoir must not run empty. Otherwise difficulties may be encountered when bleeding. Dripping brake fluid causes paint damage.

10 Seal exposed connections using stop plugs SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 1
11 Disconnect electrical connection (4) on differential lock shift cylinder    
12 Remove RPM sensors of rear axle Model 463.202/222/237/244/250/303/340/341 as of model year 2000 up to model year 2013

14 Detach hand brake cables from parking brake lever and pull out through floor panel Model 460 Model 461 (except 461. 302/304/305/331/332/333/334/340/342/343/344/392) up to model year 2013

16 Detach mounting clamps of hand brake cables on trailing arms (6)    
17 Unscrew left and right trailing arms (6) on frame    
18 Lower vehicle until springs (8) can be removed

20 Move rear axle out to the rear

21 Detach left and right trailing arm (6) from rear axle When replacing rear axle. Model 460 Model 461 (except 461. 302/304/305/331/332/333/334/340/342/343/344/346/392)

INSTALLING Install     
22 Mount left and right trailing arm (6) on rear axle Model 460 Model 461 (except 461. 302/304/305/331/332/333/334/340/342/343/344/346/392)

    IMPORTANT Ensure correct seating of the elastomer bearing.

23 Install rear axle from behind

REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 10 62 00 Support plate IMPORTANT Two helpers required. WS26.00-P-3309B
24 Install springs (8)    
25 Screw screw/bolt into frame (2) on transverse control arm (3) Model 460 Model 461 (except 461. 302/304/305/331/332/333/334/340/342/343/344/392)
Model 463 (except 463.270/271) up to model year 2013
IMPORTANT Do not yet tighten the screw/bolt on the frame (2).		  
26 Lower vehicle until trailing arm (6) can be inserted into frame    
27 Install elastomer bearing of trailing arm (6) in frame and tighten nut TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 460 Model 461 (except 461. 302/304/305/331/332/333/334/340/342/343/344/392)

28 Mount hand brake cable at trailing arms (6)
