Remove/Install Steering Knuckle - AR33.25-P-0400XG

  Notes on threaded connections fastened using a tightening angle-based tightening process   AH00.00-P-0020-01A
  Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
  Notes on repair work on suspension components   AH00.00-P-0100-01A
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Lift the vehicle such that the wheel and tire assemblies on the front axle still have contact with the floor.   AR00.60-P-1006A
2 Loosen screw (12). IMPORTANT Do not remove the screw (12).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, wheel bearing to drive shaft
*BA33.30-P-1001-07E 
3 Remove brake disk (1) from front axle on left or right.   AR42.10-P-0220XG
    IMPORTANT Fasten brake caliper (2) to vehicle free of tension with lines connected.  
4 Remove screws (3) and remove brake cover plate (4).    
5 Remove left front axle rpm sensor (L6/1) or right front axle rpm sensor (L6/2).   AR42.30-P-0712XG
6 Remove screws (5, 6) and detach brackets (7, 8) from steering knuckle (9).    
7 Unscrew nut (10) and press tie rod joint (11) off steering knuckle (9).   AR46.40-P-0200-02XG
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking nut, tie rod to steering knuckle *BA46.40-P-1002-01D 
8 Remove screw (12). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Install new screw (12).
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Screw in screw (12) finger-tight.
 
9 Unscrew nut-and-washer assembly (13) and detach supporting joint (14) from steering knuckle (9). NOTES
Take particular care when using the special tool to release the ball stud!
Replace any components hit by incorrectly performed hammer blows.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, lower transverse control arm to steering knuckle *BA33.15-P-1008-01A 
    SPECIAL TOOL Punch-out drift Fig 1
10 Unscrew nut-and-washer assembly (15) and detach upper ball joint (16) from steering knuckle (9). NOTES
Counterhold ball pin of upper ball joint (16) using a suitable tool and do not use an impact wrench.
Otherwise the upper transverse control arm or the steering knuckle (9) will be damaged.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, upper transverse control arm to steering knuckle *BA33.15-P-1011-01A 
11 Lower steering knuckle (9), detach from supporting joint (14) and drive shaft and remove.    
12 Detach wheel hub (17) from steering knuckle (9). Only when replacing the steering knuckle (9). AR33.20-P-0310XG 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, wheel bearing to steering knuckle *BA33.20-P-1012-01C 
13 Install in reverse order.
