Remove/Install Connection Fittings For Coolant Hoses - Ar20.20-D-7470WE

Engine 651.955/956/957 in model 906

  Risk of injury  to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray.
Risk of poisoning  from swallowing coolant.
Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Drain off coolant   AR20.00-D-1140SD 
2 Remove exhaust gas recirculation cooler (21)   AR14.20-D-7665WE
3 Unfasten cable duct (12) for engine wiring harness (13)   AR01.00-D-2411-01WE
4 Remove vacuum reservoir Engine 651.955/957 in model 906 AR07.09-D-0001WE
5 Open clamp and remove coolant hose (22) Engine 651.955/956/957 in model 906 except code MS3 (Engine version EURO 3)  
6 Open clamp and remove coolant hose (5) from the connection fitting (1) CAUTION Hose clamp pliers Figure
7 Unclip retaining clamp (14) on bracket (19) and push engine wiring harness (13) to the side    
8 Remove fuel filter (15) upwards out of the connection fitting (1) and place to one side IMPORTANT For this purpose open clips (17). Do not remove fuel hoses from fuel filter (15).  
9 Remove bracket (10) IMPORTANT To do this, remove screw/bolts (11).

10 Open clamps and remove coolant hoses (4, 7, 8) from connection fitting (1) Hose clamp pliers Figure
11 Open clamp (20) and push as far as possible in the direction of cable duct (12) until the connection fitting (1) can be removed SPECIAL TOOL Hose clamp pliers Figure
12 Remove screw/bolts (3) and lay holder (18) to the side with fuel hose (16) Only for version "A" of the connection fitting (1).

13 Remove screws/bolts (2.1, 2.2) Only for version "A" of the connection fitting (1).

14 Remove connection fitting (1) IMPORTANT To do this raise connection fitting (1) and remove out of coolant hose (9).  
INSPECT Check     
15 Check clamp (20) and coolant hose (9) for damage Depending on findings
↓ 
Replace clamp (20) and coolant hose (9)
 
16 Check version of the connection fitting (1) Only when replacing the connection fitting (1).
IMPORTANT Version "A" of the connection fitting (1) differs from version "B" of the connection fitting (1) in the number of fastening locations present. Use new connection fittings (1) according to the version.
 
INSTALLING Install     
17 Install connection fitting (1) NOTES
Do not use lubricant or liquid seal.
Leaks and damage may occur otherwise.
IMPORTANT Always replace sealing ring (6) on connection fitting (1).
 
18 Screw in screw/bolt (3) Only for version "A" of the connection fitting (1).
IMPORTANT To do this fasten bracket (18) using a fuel hose (16). Do not yet tighten screw/bolts (3).

19 Screw in screws/bolts (2.1, 2.2) Only for version "A" of the connection fitting (1)
IMPORTANT First tighten the screw/bolt (2.1), then tighten the screw/bolt (2.2).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, coolant connection fitting to cylinder head

19.1 Screw in screw/bolts (24, 25, 26) Only for version "B" of the connection fitting (1).
IMPORTANT Screw in screw/bolts (24, 25, 26) and then tighten in the numerical sequence.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, coolant connection fitting to cylinder head

20 Tighten screw/bolts (3) Only for version "A" of the connection fitting (1).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, coolant connection fitting to charge air distributor

21 Fasten clamp (20) IMPORTANT Attach clamp (20) in such a way that the bracket (10) can be installed.
Position clamp (20) between markings on the coolant hose (9).
 
22 Attach coolant hoses (4, 7, 8) to connection fitting (1) IMPORTANT Position clamps between markings on coolant hoses (4, 7, 8).

23 Install bracket (10) IMPORTANT Screw in screw/bolts (11) to do this.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, bracket to cylinder head

24 Position fuel filter (15) and fasten in place using clamps (17)    
25 Fasten engine wiring harness (13) in place    
26 Install coolant hose (22) Engine 651.955/956/957 in model 906 except code MS3 (Engine version EURO 3)
IMPORTANT Replace clamp if necessary.
 
27 Attach coolant hose (5) to connection fitting (1) IMPORTANT Position clamp between markings on the coolant hose (5).

29 Attach cable duct (12) for engine wiring harness (13)   AR01.00-D-2411-01WE
30 Install exhaust gas recirculation cooler (21)   AR14.20-D-7665WE
31 Pour in coolant   AR20.00-D-1140SD 
INSPECT Check     
32 Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.
Check for leaktightness with engine running
Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
IMPORTANT Visual inspection only.
