Remove/install oil pan - AR01.45-P-7500SX

ENGINES 273 in MODEL 216, 221 Vehicles with front sump

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only tighten nuts and bolts of chassis components when vehicle is in a ready-to-drive condition.

1 Empty suspension struts using STAR DIAGNOSIS Vehicles with AIRmatic
STAR DIAGNOSIS diagnosis system
 
2 Deactivate easy entry/exit function Vehicles with memory package (driver seat, steering column, mirrors) code 275 AR54.30-P-1000-02ESX
3 Turn front wheels to straight-ahead position and secure steering wheel with SPECIAL TOOL holding device. NOTES The steering wheel must not be turned when the steering coupling is detached, otherwise the clock spring contact will be destroyed.

4 Remove the front wheels    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels AP40.10-P-4050SX
5 Remove air filter housing   AR09.10-P-1150SX
6 Remove bottom engine compartment paneling INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Install engine compartment paneling only after engine test run. AR61.20-P-1105SX
7 Drain engine oil    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Engine oil and filter change AP18.00-P-0101SX
8 Remove oil pan bottom section (1)   AR01.45-P-7555SX 
9 Detach intake pipe (3) from oil pump (4) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA18.10-P-1004-01B 
10 Disconnect electrical connector (2) on switch (S43)    
11 Remove bolt (1a). TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA01.45-P-1002-01M 
12 Remove bolts (1b) and take off bracket (5) with switch (S43) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA01.45-P-1002-01M 
13 Remove oil dipstick guide tube (7).   AR18.40-P-3510SX
14 Detach engine mount (6) from front axle carrier (31)   AR22.10-P-1260SX
15 SPECIAL TOOL Mount engine lifting device and raise engine NOTES Make sure when lifting out engine that no cables and lines are damaged and that engine does not hit against partition wall. AR33.10-P-0105SX
16 Disconnect steering coupling   AR46.10-P-8000SX
17 Loosen bolted connections for spring control arm on front axle carrier (31) Vehicles with AIRmatic AR33.15-P-0170SX
Vehicles with Active Body Control (Code 487) only. AR33.15-P-0170SY
18 Detach bolted connections for torque struts on front axle carrier (31)   AR33.15-P-0160SX
19 Detach link rods from stabilizer bar Vehicles with AIRmatic AR32.20-P-0300SX
20 Remove bolts (15) and detach hydraulic line (17b) from front axle carrier (31) Vehicles with Active Body Control (Code 487) only.  
21 Remove bolt (1c) and double clamp (8) from oil cooler line TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA27.55-P-1005-01D 
22 Detach retaining clamp (9) from front axle carrier (31).    
23 Detach vehicle jack support point (18) from front axle carrier (31)    
24 Remove bolts from oil pan (10) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Observe different bolt lengths and diameters:

25 Prop front axle carrier (31) with COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOLS transmission jack (01) and COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOLS transmission platform (02) Transmission jack

26 Remove bolts (1d) from front axle carrier (31) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA33.10-P-1001-01K 
27 Lower front axle carrier (31) NOTES When lowering, ensure that no cables or lines are damaged.  
28 Detach the oil pan (10) from the crankcase and remove it to rear NOTES Carefully pry off oil pan (10) from crankcase so that the sealing surfaces are not damaged.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Apply sealant to the sealing surface of oil pan (10): ↓

CLEAN Clean     
29 Clean sealing surfaces on oil pan (10) and crankcase NOTES Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper as this will damage the sealing surfaces. AR01.00-P-0050-01A
Loctite 7200 *BR00.45-Z-1038-04A 
Loctite 7063 cleaning spray (150 ml) *BR00.45-Z-1046-04A 
30 Install in the reverse order    
31 Perform wheel alignment check Model 221

32 Check engine oil level about 5 minutes after switching off the warm engine and correct if necessary    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Engine oil and filter change AP18.00-P-0101SX
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

33 Carry out engine test run, checking the engine for proper operation and leaks
