REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off the lifting platform. Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by fingers being pinched or crushed  when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lids, liftgates or sliding roof Keep body parts and limbs well clear of moving parts. AS00.00-Z-0011-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  to skin or eyes caused by hydraulic fluid spraying out under high pressure. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing hydraulic fluid Depressurize hydraulic system completely before starting any work on the system. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. AS00.00-Z-0013-01A
1 Deactivate easy entry/exit function for driver seat and steering wheel Vehicles with memory package (driver seat, steering column, mirrors) code 275
NOTES When easy entry/exit for the driver seat and steering wheel is activated, the seat will move into the memory position when the ignition is switched on or the driver door is opened and closed; thus the top frame can be damaged when the holding device is installed.
 
2 Turn front wheels to straight-ahead position and secure steering wheel in place with a holding device NOTES The steering wheel must not be turned when the steering coupling is detached, otherwise the clock spring contact will be destroyed.

3 Remove engine intake air duct    
4 Partially remove poly-V belt IMPORTANT Only remove poly-V belt from belt pulley of refrigerant compressor (A9). AR13.20-P-0001SX
5 Only unscrew bolts (8) on bracket for oil dipstick guide tube (9) on back of cylinder head (10)   AR18.40-P-3510SMG
6 Mount engine hoist   AR33.10-P-0105SX
7 Lift engine a little    
8 Remove bottom engine compartment paneling INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only install lower engine compartment paneling after engine test run and leak test. AR61.20-P-1105SX
9 Remove oil pan bottom section (2)   AR01.45-P-7555SMG 
10 Loosen engine mounts on front axle carrier   AR22.10-P-1260SX
11 Detach both holders from high pressure expansion hose on steering gear    
12 Detach refrigerant compressor (A9) and put it on the side with connected lines IMPORTANT Push refrigerant compressor (A9) until the bolts of the supporting strut (7) are accessible. AR83.55-P-5300SMG
13 Remove supporting strut (7) for power steering pump TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA46.30-P-1004-01O 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA46.30-P-1005-01O 
14 Disconnect engine oil lines (3) at connecting flange (4) IMPORTANT Seal engine oil lines (3).
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace sealing rings.
 
15 Detach engine oil lines (3) at crankcase (11) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace sealing rings.

16 Detach spring struts on spring control arm NOTES When working on the front axle, ensure that surfaces of all aluminum parts do not suffer any scratches, cracks and notches. Otherwise the service life of the of the parts will be reduced. AR32.25-P-1017SY
17 Lower front axle carrier   AR33.10-P-0001SX
18 Disconnect electrical connector (12) at the oil sensor    
19 Detach oil lines of automatic transmission (13) at oil pan (1) IMPORTANT Loosen clamp and rotate top section by 90°.

20 Remove bolts (14) on oil pan (1) IMPORTANT Pry off front cover (15) by turning a bolt on the oil pan (1). The 5 bolts located below must also be removed.

TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA01.45-P-1007-01R 
21 Pry off oil pan (1) from crankcase (11) and remove NOTES Pry off oil pan (1) by turning a bolt on the crankcase (11) and loosen with an assembly wedge. Do not manage the sealing surfaces of the oil pan (1) and crankcase (11).
IMPORTANT If oil pan (1) cannot be detached from the crankcase (11), heat up the sealing surfaces of the oil pan (1) using a hot air gun.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace sealing ring on oil dipstick guide tube (9). Check for correct seating of sealing ring on the oil dipstick guide tube (9) in the (1) oil pan.

CLEAN Clean     
22 Clean sealing surfaces on oil pan (1) and cylinder crankcase (11) NOTES Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper as this can damage the sealing surfaces. AR01.00-P-0050-01A
Loctite 7200 *BR00.45-Z-1038-04A 
Cleaning spray, Loctite 7063 (150ml) *BR00.45-Z-1046-04A 
23 Install in the reverse order    
INSPECT Checking     
24 Check engine oil level; correct if necessary    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Engine oil and filter change AP18.00-P-0101SX
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

25 Conduct engine test run and check engine for leaks whilst it is running
