Video DVD playback function sequence
The DVD drive integrated into the DVD player decodes the digital data of the inserted video DVD and forwards these internally to the DVD player. The DVD player generates the analog audio and picture signals for the user interface of the "DISK" menu item on the screen of the respective display based on the digital data from the video DVD.
The menus and submenus of the "DISC" menu item are displayed for the rear passenger(s) on the screen of the respective display (see operating instructions).
The rear passenger(s) can now perform additional control operations or settings using the above-specified controls on the remote control (see Operating instructions).
The signals from the above-specified controls on the remote control are transferred via the infrared (IR) interface on the remote control to the respective display.

MP3-CD or DVD playback function sequence
The DVD drive integrated into the DVD player decodes the digital data of the inserted MP3-CD or DVD and forwards these internally to the DVD player. The DVD player generates the analog audio and picture signals for the user interface of the "DISK" menu item on the screen of the respective display based on the digital data from the MP3-CD or DVD.
The menus and submenus of the "DISC" menu item are displayed for the rear passenger(s) on the screen of the respective display (see operating instructions).
The rear passenger(s) can now perform additional control operations or settings using the above-specified controls on the remote control (see Operating instructions).
The signals from the above-specified controls on the remote control are transferred via the IR interface on the remote control to the respective display.
Transmission of audio and picture signals function sequence
Upon reception of the analog picture signals from the DVD player via the Y/C line, the respective display generates the digital picture signals for the associated screen on the display.
The generated digital picture signals are output on the screen of the respective display.
Upon reception of the analog audio signals from the DVD player via the stereo line, the respective display generates the digital audio signals.
These digital audio signals are transferred via the IR interface of the respective display and the IR interface of the connected headphones to these headphones (cordless).
Volume can only be adjusted via the volume control integrated in the respective headphones.
When headphones (cable-connected) are connected via the headphone jacks integrated in the respective displays, the analog audio signals are transferred to the headphones via the headphone cable by the respective display. The volume is adjusted via the "Volume +/-" control on the remote control. Additionally, the preset volume can be regulated via the volume control of the particular headphones. The signals from the "Volume +/-" control on the remote control are transferred via the IR interface on the remote control to the respective display.
On vehicles with code (528) COMAND with DVD changer or with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer, the analog audio signals are also transferred to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) by the DVD player via a stereo line.
On vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the activated COMAND operating, display and controller unit transfers the audio signals via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier (N40/3) depending on the volume set on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.
From there, the audio signals are output at the following speakers via direct lines:
- Left rear door speaker (H4/3)
- Right rear door speaker (H4/4)
- Left front door speaker (H4/5)
- Right front door speaker (H4/6)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
- Subwoofer speaker (H4/29)
- Left front door tweeter (H4/33)
- Right front door tweeter (H4/34)
- Left rear door tweeter (H4/35)
- Right rear door tweeter (H4/36)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57)
The audio signal for the subwoofer speaker travels from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit to the sound system amplifier via MOST and from there, over direct lines, to the subwoofer amplifier (N40/9) and then to the subwoofer speaker.
On vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the audio signals are output directly by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit at the following speakers:
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Left front door tweeter
- Right rear door tweeter
- Left rear door tweeter
- Right rear door tweeter
The volume is adjusted at the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following controls:
- Turn/push control on COMAND operating, display and controller unit
- + and - buttons for setting specific functions and volume control (S111s1) on the multifunction steering wheel (MFL)
The control signals from the turn/push control on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit are processed internally.
The control signals from the + and - button for setting specific functions and volume control on the MFL are transferred to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following path:
- Steering LIN
- Steering column tube module (N80)
- Engine compartment CAN
- Instrument cluster (A1)
- Interior CAN
