Depending on the equipment installed one of the following control units will be installed, hereafter referred to as the "audio unit":

• Radio (A2), with code (510) Audio 20 including CD changer
• Radio and navigation unit (A2/56), with code (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio or with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer
• COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3), with code (528) COMAND including DVD changer, with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (512) COMAND APS including DVD changer

MOST 

The amplifier for sound system is a subscriber of the MOST and receives the Digital Transmission Content Protection (DTCP) copy-protected audio signals from the following components, for example:

• "Audio unit"
• Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit (N87/3), with code (537) Digital radio and with code (833) Great Britain version
• High-Definition tuner control unit (N87/8), with code (517) HD radio
• Media interface control unit (N125/1), with code (518) Media interface
• TV combination tuner (analog/digital) (A90/1), with code (863) TV tuner digital/analog
• TV digital tuner (A90/3), with code (865) TV tuner

Decoding signals 

• Decoding DTCP copy-protected audio signals on basis of newest Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology

DSP means that for the audio range, audio tracks are processed using mathematical algorithms with the objective of improving the acoustic sound characteristics.

Supporting and amplifying signals 

• Supporting Logic 7
• Supporting 2 stereo entertainment channels and 3 announcement channels (e.g. for voice output of navigation instructions, etc.)
• Amplifying decoded audio signals

Transmitting signals 

Discrete lines 

• Output of signal tones (BEEPs), digital multiple channel output and output of decoded, volume-adapted and amplified audio signals over the following speakers:
  • Left front door speaker (H4/5)
  • Right front door speaker (H4/6)
  • Left rear door speaker (H4/3)
  • Right rear door speaker (H4/4)
  • Left front door tweeter (H4/33)
  • Right front door tweeter (H4/34)
  • Left rear door tweeter (H4/35)
  • Right rear door tweeter (H4/36)
  • Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
  • Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
  • Right rear surround speaker (H4/57)
• Line Out for subwoofer amplifier (N40/9)

Function 

The sound system amplifier is controlled by the "Audio unit". The "Audio unit" provides all menus for user guidance. Moreover, the following subfunctions are available:

• Software download 

Diagnosis 

Diagnosis on the sound system amplifier is accomplished using the Keyword-2000 protocol. All other control units in MOST are also diagnosed via this interface at the same time!

The sound system amplifier can be configured with the Common Vehicle Information (CVI).

Software download 

The update is carried out via the "audio equipment" drive using a CD or DVD.
